Our Client
Our client is a dynamic Toronto-based investment management firm specializing in alternative investments and mutual funds. They are seeking a Senior Manager, Fund Operations to join their Toronto team. This is a senior, hands-on role reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, with responsibility for overseeing key fund operations, financial reporting and regulatory functions while leading and mentoring a team.
The role follows a hybrid model, with 2-3 days per week in the Toronto office.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of four while providing guidance and mentorship to others across the organization.
- Act as the primary liaison between Fund Operations and the Portfolio Management team, including supporting performance reporting and portfolio management systems.
- Oversee relationships with external service providers, including custodians, fund accountants and auditors.
- Oversee daily NAV pricing and analysis for mutual and alternative funds.
- Manage regulatory reporting requirements, including financial statement reviews, quarterly performance disclosure, fund facts and tax reporting.
- Prepare and review fund financial statements, supporting schedules and related reporting.
- Oversee fund tax records, distributions and preparation of tax returns.
- Manage daily treasury oversight.
- Collaborate on financial reporting, portfolio analysis and marketing support related to the funds.
- Identify and implement process, technology and control improvements to enhance efficiency, productivity and risk management.
- Leverage technology and AI to automate reporting, analyze data and improve operational processes.
- Work with Bloomberg to produce actionable insights and support other ad hoc projects as required.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- CPA designation required.
- Minimum 5-7 years of fund accounting experience required.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting and a broad range of securities, including derivative products such as options, futures and swaps.
- Proficiency with SQL and programming languages such as Python.
- Ability to use AI tools to automate reporting and tasks and analyze data.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Bloomberg experience is considered a strong asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Hands-on, practical and detail-oriented approach.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
