Wage: $26.44–$33.65 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Position: Full-time, on-site

Reports to: QA Manager

This posting is for an existing vacancy.

About the role

Working closely with the QA Manager, you will help develop, update and maintain our HACCP system and Preventive Control Plan (PCP). Your main focus will be food safety documentation, technical writing and document control, with production-floor support to ensure written procedures reflect actual operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Write and update HACCP/PCP programs, SOPs, work instructions, forms and supporting records.
  • Maintain hazard analyses, process flows, monitoring procedures and corrective action documentation.
  • Support programs covering sanitation, sampling, chilling, supplier approvals, labelling, traceability and recalls.
  • Help prepare for CFIA inspections, customer audits, Halal audits and third-party certification audits.
  • Review QA data, identify documentation gaps and support investigations and continuous improvement.
  • Visit production areas to verify procedures and assist with inspections, monitoring and sampling.
  • Support product specifications, product holds, traceability and reporting within our CSB electronic system.
  • Prepare training materials and communicate program changes across departments.

What we’re looking for

  • Education in food science, food safety, microbiology, meat science, quality assurance or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • HACCP training and a solid understanding of HACCP principles.
  • Experience developing, writing or maintaining food safety programs and SOPs.
  • Strong technical writing, editing and document-control skills.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing or meat processing operations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple documentation projects and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Assets

Knowledge of CFIA requirements, the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, HACCP-based PCPs, SQF/BRCGS or other GFSI-recognized programs. Experience with meat processing, audit preparation, validation, verification, root cause analysis, traceability and recalls would also be valuable.

Work environment

This position is primarily office-based, with visits to slaughter, fabrication, packaging, storage and sanitation areas. The role includes exposure to cold, wet or noisy conditions and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs, with accommodation as required. All PPE, hygiene and food safety procedures must be followed.
