Original job description

We're BlueCat - a Great Place to Work for good reason. Our team solves critical network challenges for some of the world's largest organizations. In simple terms, we manage the systems that keep networks running smoothly, securely, and reliably - the backbone infrastructure that powers digital transformation for enterprises globally. Our Intelligent Network Operations platform delivers and enables AI-driven agentic ops at scale, automating and simplifying how companies manage, secure, and optimize their networks.

But what makes us different is how we work: we believe great work happens in an environment where you're trusted, heard, and supported. With teams globally, we're building a workplace culture that values collaboration and integrity as much as innovation. If you're looking to advance your career with a company that invests in its people, this is it.

We are looking for a Director of Accounting to join our Finance team!

About the Role

You will own day-to-day accounting operations, including the close, technical accounting, and audit readiness. You will lead a team of 9 (3 direct reports) and play a central role in integrating systems and future acquisitions. This is a high-impact role at a dynamic, fast-paced company.

What You’ll Do

Accounting Operations & Close

Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close: set the calendar and drive deadlines across cross-functional teams.
Oversee GL, A/P, and revenue accounting, including account reconciliations and journal entry review.
Review revenue recognition under ASC 606, including complex contracts, multiple-element arrangements, and deferred revenue.
Own equity accounting, including stock-based compensation and cap table reconciliation.

Reporting & Compliance

Prepare and review monthly financial statements and flux analysis, and provide inputs to management reporting.
Own regulatory, tax-support, and lender/bank covenant compliance reporting.
Partner with external auditors to deliver clean audits, including PBC lists, technical memos, and timely issue resolution.

Controls, Policy & Process

Design, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Identify and lead process improvements and automation (e.g., close tooling, NetSuite workflows, reconciliation and reporting automation) with measurable outcomes.
Leverage AI tools such as Claude to automate manual accounting work (e.g., flux commentary, reconciliations, journal entry prep, and documentation) while maintaining strong controls and review standards.

M&A Integration

Lead accounting due diligence support and post-close integration: opening balance sheets, purchase price accounting (ASC 805), system migration, and harmonization of policies and procedures.

Leadership

Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team; set goals, delegate authority, and build a strong bench.
Serve as a trusted business partner to senior leadership, translating accounting issues into clear, actionable guidance.

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA required.
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years managing people.
Public accounting or audit background (Big 4 a plus) and industry experience in technology.
Deep US GAAP expertise, especially ASC 606; working knowledge of ASC 805, 842, and 718.
Hands-on experience with an ERP (NetSuite preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
Proven track record improving close, controls, and processes.
Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude) to streamline accounting workflows, with a practical understanding of how to validate AI output and keep it audit-ready.
Experience with M&A accounting, purchase price accounting, and integrations (strongly preferred).
Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills; comfortable working independently and adapting to shifting priorities.

This position offers a salary range of $172,000 - $188,000 CAD per year plus participation in a discretionary bonus plan. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience, and qualifications. The role is for an existing vacancy.

If you share our enthusiasm for the future of our company and are eager to contribute to our vibrant workplace, we look forward to receiving your application! Our comprehensive benefits encompass your health, financial well-being, and overall wellness, and we are committed to providing an exceptional work environment, enriching employee programs, and fostering a remarkable company culture. At our core, we champion values such as transparency, curiosity, respect, and above all, the pursuit of enjoyment.

In addition, we offer a range of appealing perks, including:

A Professional Development Budget

Dedicated Wellness Days and Wellness Week

A Lifestyle Spending Account

An Employee Recognition Program

Join us in shaping the future of our organization, where your talent and dedication can truly thrive. We invite you to apply and become a valuable member of our team!

BlueCat is an Equal Opportunity Employer that is committed to inclusion and diversity. We also take affirmative action to offer employment and advancement opportunities to all applicants, including minorities, women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities. BlueCat will not discriminate or retaliate against applicants who inquire about, disclose, or discuss their compensation or that of other applicants.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. If you would like more information about how your data is processed, please contact us.
