Original job description

We're BlueCat - a Great Place to Work for good reason. Our team solves critical network challenges for some of the world's largest organizations. In simple terms, we manage the systems that keep networks running smoothly, securely, and reliably - the backbone infrastructure that powers digital transformation for enterprises globally. Our Intelligent Network Operations platform delivers and enables AI-driven agentic ops at scale, automating and simplifying how companies manage, secure, and optimize their networks.

But what makes us different is how we work: we believe great work happens in an environment where you're trusted, heard, and supported. With teams globally, we're building a workplace culture that values collaboration and integrity as much as innovation. If you're looking to advance your career with a company that invests in its people, this is it.

BlueCat is seeking a VP, Engineering, Network Observability to lead the engineering organization behind LiveAction, BlueCat's Network Observability product line. This leader will own the technical direction, architecture, delivery, and operational excellence of a complex, data-intensive platform that gives enterprises, telcos, and government agencies deep, predictive visibility into network health, performance, and behavior - from the data center and campus to the WAN, cloud, and edge.

This is a highly cross-functional leadership role partnering closely with Product Management, Customer Care, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success to ensure tight alignment between engineering execution, customer experience, and business outcomes.

Experience

We are looking for someone who has experience:

Setting the technical direction and multi-year engineering roadmap for a network observability, network performance monitoring (NPM), or infrastructure monitoring product line
Leading engineering teams that have delivered successful enterprise infrastructure products and services, both SaaS and on-prem
Architecting and scaling data-intensive platforms that ingest, process, and analyze network telemetry - flow data (NetFlow/IPFIX/sFlow), SNMP, packet capture, synthetic testing, and streaming telemetry
Delivering AI (ML, Generative, Agentic) capabilities for anomaly detection, root-cause analysis, and predictive insights that reduce mean-time-to-resolution
Evolving long-lived code bases and developing a pragmatic go-forward plan to retire tech debt
Building high-performing, geographically distributed engineering teams, including managing work transitions to offshore teams and multiple sites
Coaching, mentoring, and developing top talent, including managers and senior technical leaders
Establishing software development standards, processes, and best practices for the entire organization
Developing strategic plans to accomplish technical and business objectives with Product Management, executive leadership, and your team members
Engaging directly with enterprise and government strategic accounts to understand technical requirements and resolve escalations

Required Qualifications

MS/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields
15+ years of experience in a software engineering environment
10+ years managing senior individual contributors and other leads/managers, including leading managers of managers
Direct experience building network observability, network performance monitoring, or network/infrastructure management products
Strong technical fluency in networking fundamentals and telemetry (TCP/IP, routing/switching, NetFlow/IPFIX, SNMP, packet analysis, WAN/SD-WAN) and key open source technologies – e.g. clickhouse, Prometheus/Grafana, K8s
Experience in delivering high performance hardware/appliances system for network telemetry/packets.
Strong experience and detailed technical knowledge in SaaS or PaaS engineering, as well as on-prem enterprise software delivery
Strong development experience in Java, C++, or similar OO languages
Experience operating at, or reporting directly to, the C-level
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience in a collaborative, agile development environment

Preferred Qualifications

Hands-on experience developing services on a public cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle)
Experience with high-throughput data pipelines and analytics (e.g., streaming, time-series, and large-scale storage technologies)
Background in AIOps, machine learning for anomaly detection, or predictive analytics applied to network or IT operations
Experience transitioning a product tech stack toward a more open-source, cloud-portable architecture
Familiarity with government/public sector requirements (e.g., FedRAMP, StateRAMP, ATO processes)
Post-acquisition technology integration experience
Prior experience in a customer-facing technical role (e.g., sales engineering, professional services, support, product management)
A mix of smaller-company (<$100M revenue) and larger-company (>$1B revenue) experience

If you share our enthusiasm for the future of our company and are eager to contribute to our vibrant workplace, we look forward to receiving your application! Our comprehensive benefits encompass your health, financial well-being, and overall wellness, and we are committed to providing an exceptional work environment, enriching employee programs, and fostering a remarkable company culture. At our core, we champion values such as transparency, curiosity, respect, and above all, the pursuit of enjoyment.

In addition, we offer a range of appealing perks, including:

A Professional Development Budget

Dedicated Wellness Days and Wellness Week

A Lifestyle Spending Account

An Employee Recognition Program

Join us in shaping the future of our organization, where your talent and dedication can truly thrive. We invite you to apply and become a valuable member of our team!

BlueCat is an Equal Opportunity Employer that is committed to inclusion and diversity. We also take affirmative action to offer employment and advancement opportunities to all applicants, including minorities, women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities. BlueCat will not discriminate or retaliate against applicants who inquire about, disclose, or discuss their compensation or that of other applicants.
