Job Posting – Senior Civil/Structural Checker (Contractor)
Bluestar Engineering Ltd. is a Calgary-based EPCM company specializing in small to medium size upstream oil and gas projects. As a fully integrated multi-discipline organization, Bluestar offers a full spectrum of engineering services for identifying, planning, and executing capital projects and optimizing existing ones.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil/Structural Checker to join our team on an independent contractor basis. This is a part-time engagement requiring approximately 10–20 hours per week, depending on project requirements.
Duties And Responsibilities

As a fully integrated multi-discipline organization, Bluestar offers a full spectrum of engineering services for identifying, planning, and executing capital projects and optimizing existing ones.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil/Structural Checker to join our team on an independent contractor basis. This is a part-time engagement requiring approximately 10–20 hours per week, depending on project requirements.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Check 2D drawings such as Plot Plan, Pile Layout, Structural and Civil drawings, as well as check 3D CAD models and utilize Navisworks.
- Review overall Civil/Structural Layout while checking for design issues, clashes, etc., utilizing 3D model, Navisworks and piping GAs.
- Assess all vendor drawings to ensure their compliance with related project requirements and the 3D model.
- Checking of BOMs (bill of materials).
- Coordinate with Project Design Leads and CSA Designers to ensure clients needs are being met within project scope, schedule and budget.
- Engineering Technologist Diploma or equivalent is required.
- 7 + years of checking experience.
- 7 + years in an EPCM setting.
- Extensive knowledge in AutoCAD drafting software.
- Personable and able to work with a team in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Proven ability to manage various projects and meet deadlines within project scope.
- Ability to adjust to change and multitask in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements
Requires an Engineering Technologist Diploma or equivalent, at least 7 years of checking experience, and at least 7 years in an EPCM setting. Candidates should have extensive AutoCAD knowledge, strong communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects, adapt to change, and meet deadlines.
