Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 annually

About Us

Bluestar Professional Services Inc. is an investment office operating across Canada and the United States. We acquire and operate small to medium-sized businesses with a long-term, value-driven approach focused on sustainable growth and meaningful outcomes for employees, clients, and investors.

Our businesses bring together legal, accounting, wealth management, and advisory expertise under one platform, creating a collaborative environment focused on simplifying complexity and delivering thoughtful, long-term solutions.

At Bluestar, we believe great businesses are built by great people. We foster a culture of collaboration, growth, excellence, and continuous learning, where individuals are supported, empowered to take initiative, and given opportunities to make a meaningful impact.

About the Role

The developer will take over and deliver development projects within Bluestar’s existing proprietary platform for client intake, identity, appointments, and operational workflows. Working directly with the Director of Sales & Marketing, the developer will assume responsibility for assigned projects from understanding the existing implementation through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Sales & Marketing provides product direction, business rules, and priorities. The developer is responsible for investigating the codebase, proposing technical solutions, identifying dependencies, and completing implementation without requiring step-by-step technical instructions.
Develop, maintain, and enhance proprietary internal software applications.
Build new features and components based on business and workflow requirements.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve ongoing software and application issues.
Implement agreed changes to business workflows while preserving established business rules, client identity relationships, data integrity, and existing functionality.
Develop and integrate software systems to support internal operations.
Work across front-end and back-end systems to deliver complete solutions.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand workflows, requirements, and system needs.
Identify opportunities to improve software functionality, performance, usability, and efficiency.
Maintain existing codebases while integrating new functionality effectively.
Establish development practices to manage code, changes, and deployments.
Take over projects at different stages of completion, establish their current state, identify remaining work, and maintain clear progress updates and documentation so the business does not depend on the original developer’s knowledge.
Use AI-assisted development tools effectively while independently understanding, reviewing, testing, and taking responsibility for the resulting code.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience independently delivering and supporting production full stack applications, including taking over existing codebases. Candidates must be able to own projects across application code, databases, integrations, and deployment.
Strong experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, React, and Express.js.
Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server/Azure SQL and T-SQL, including stored procedures, relational data modelling, transactions, query troubleshooting, and safe changes to production databases.
Experience building and maintaining third-party integrations using REST APIs and webhooks, including authentication, retries, duplicate-event prevention, error handling, and troubleshooting across connected systems.
Experience with GitHub and modern software development workflows.
Experience with Tailwind CSS.
Experience with BigQuery is an asset.
Experience with TanStack is preferred.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to understand and prioritize complex business workflows and translate them into effective software solutions.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Education

A degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Computer Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

The successful candidate will:

Take ownership of development projects from requirements through implementation and ongoing improvement.
Build new functionality while maintaining and improving existing systems.
Investigate issues, identify root causes, and implement practical solutions.
Understand business workflows and translate them into effective technical solutions.
Work independently while communicating effectively with internal stakeholders.
Adapt to changing requirements and continuously improve existing processes and systems.

What We’re Looking For

An experienced full stack developer who can build, troubleshoot, and improve software independently.
A strong problem-solver who can investigate issues and determine practical solutions.
Someone comfortable working with proprietary internal systems and evolving workflows.
Someone who understands how different technologies, applications, databases, and APIs work together.
A proactive and accountable developer who takes ownership and requires limited day-to-day supervision.

What We Offer

Flexible hybrid work arrangement with a minimum of 1 day in the office
Supportive and collaborative team environment.
Opportunity to have a direct impact on the development and improvement of internal business systems.
Opportunity for growth.

Compensation and Benefits

A competitive compensation package
Dental care, Extended health care, Vision Care, and Life insurance
Paid time off
On-site parking
Company Events

Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

Bluestar Professional Services Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.

Bluestar Professional Services Inc. adopts an inclusive and accessible environment and is committed to providing support to applicants and firm members with disabilities. If you require accommodation at any time during the recruitment, selection, or assessment process, please let us know.
