Ships operate in some of the harshest environments on Earth. Making sure they and their systems can perform reliably in those conditions is an engineering challenge in its own right.
We're looking for an Systems Engineer to join Blumara and support complex naval and marine engineering programs.
This role focuses on ensuring that ships, systems, and equipment are suitable for their intended operating environments, from extreme temperatures and severe weather to icing, humidity, saltwater exposure, and demanding sea conditions.
We're looking for someone with a solid engineering foundation, good technical judgement, and an interest in solving complex engineering problems.
With a minimum of two years of relevant experience, this could be an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer looking to develop specialist expertise.
What you'll be doing
- Developing and reviewing environmental requirements for ships, systems, and equipment.
- Assessing equipment suitability against expected environmental and operating conditions.
- Reviewing engineering designs, technical specifications, and qualification evidence.
- Supporting environmental testing, verification, validation, and compliance activities.
- Identifying technical risks and working with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical solutions.
- Preparing engineering assessments, compliance documentation, and technical reports.
- Participating in design reviews, technical working groups, and discussions with clients and equipment suppliers.
What we're looking for
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least two years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience working with technical specifications, engineering requirements, design documentation, or testing.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
- An organized approach to engineering work and an interest in developing specialist technical expertise.
- Eligibility for Canadian security screening.
Experience in marine or defence engineering, environmental qualification, equipment testing, or relevant engineering standards would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
