As a key member of the Business Banking leadership team, the Head of CBB Segment & Lending Operations supports the execution of the Canadian Business Banking (CBB) strategy by delivering efficient, scalable, and risk-managed segment, credit and lending operations that optimize client experience, sales effectiveness, portfolio performance, and profitability, while driving continuous operational efficiencies, productivity improvements, and process simplification to enhance capacity, service quality, and business performance. Leads the national underwriting/adjudication, funding, middle office, file review, KYC remediation and fraud due diligence support teams, ensuring operational excellence, sound risk management, and consistent service delivery across the business. Holds unilateral credit authority and provides leadership on complex lending decisions, balancing client needs with prudent risk management within the Bank's approved risk appetite.

· Leads the national Segment, Credit & Lending Operations function, including underwriting/adjudication, funding, middle office, file reviews, and fraud due diligence support activities, supporting CBB clients.

· Leads operational performance management across the function and holds accountability for improving operational productivity and creating capacity to support business growth through workflow optimization, simplification, and technology-enabled solutions.

· Identifies opportunities to simplify, standardize, digitize, and automate lending processes to improve turnaround times, scalability, risk management, client experience, and reduce avoidable operating costs.

· Delivers exceptional client and employee experiences by ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient execution of lending activities across the business.

· Partners with Business Banking Sales, Products, Risk Management, AML, Fraud, and other key stakeholders to align operational capacity, capabilities, priorities, and service levels with business growth objectives.

· Oversees credit underwriting, funding, credit file reviews, fraud due diligence, and key administrative activities for new and existing clients, ensuring sound adjudication, quality decision-making, and consistent application of credit policies and standards.

· Exercises unilateral lending authority and provides guidance on complex or escalated lending decisions, ensuring recommendations adhere to sound credit-granting principles and regulatory requirements.

· Maintains accountability for portfolio quality through effective monitoring, annual reviews, early identification of emerging risks, and proactive portfolio management practices.

· Ensures the quality and integrity of credit analysis, portfolio monitoring, customer and account controls, and risk management processes to protect the Bank's assets and support sustainable business growth.

· Maintains a strong control environment by ensuring compliance with internal policies, lending directives, regulatory requirements, audit standards, AML obligations, and operational risk management practices.

· Provides oversight of discretionary lending authorities and related controls, ensuring appropriate governance, monitoring, reporting, and escalation practices are in place.

· Within the mandate of this role, promotes and supports the Bank’s risk culture including ensuring employees understand their accountabilities for risk-taking activities, promoting an environment of open communication and effective challenge, and establishing the “tone from the top” through leading by example.

· Takes measured risks while protecting the bank by applying our Risk Management Framework in the execution of their role, in line with our Risk Culture and within our approved Risk Appetite, making sound and risk informed decisions that align to business strategy, protect assets, and adhere to applicable policy documents (Frameworks, Policies, Standards, Procedures and Supporting documents), laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

· University degree or equivalent experience. Preferred: MBA or equivalent

· 10+ years Financial Services management experience, including senior leadership experience;

· Demonstrated experience leading and transforming operational areas within financial services, including identifying and executing against key optimization initiatives to drive increase efficiency and productivity

· Experience in financial services risk management and an understanding of regulatory and internal requirements

· In-depth knowledge of Bank products, Bank organization, and banking group inter-relationships

· Expert business acumen

· Credit/Lending experience would be considered an asset

· Excellent organizational, communications, presentation, and relationship management skills

· Excellent managerial leadership and change leadership skills

· Excellent coaching and interpersonal skills

· Solid performance management and people development skills

· Demonstrated excellent negotiation, problem resolution and leadership ability

Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
