Original job description

Chief Technology Officer - Bob Doc

We’ve built Bob Doc, an AI-native EMR designed to fundamentally change how medicine is practiced, starting in Canada. We’re looking for a CTO to lead its technical evolution and build the engineering organization behind it.

Why Bob Doc

We believe we’re at the beginning of a new era in medicine - and that Bob Doc can help build its foundation.

Our ambition is to fundamentally change how medicine is delivered: how clinicians understand their patients, how clinics coordinate care, and how much time and attention can go toward the person in the room. We’ve built Bob Doc with AI at its centre because we believe that future requires rethinking the medical record from the ground up.

Joining Bob Doc is an opportunity to help turn that vision into everyday clinical practice. As CTO, you’ll shape the technology, build the engineering team, and help create an organization with the ambition to change healthcare for generations to come.

The role

You’ll work directly with the founder to translate a clinical vision into reliable, secure and intuitive software.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll take ownership of architecture, engineering delivery, infrastructure and technical quality while recruiting and developing the team. You should be comfortable moving between long-term strategy, detailed technical decisions, code reviews and solving difficult engineering problems.

You’ll guide the continued development of an existing product, establishing the technical foundations and engineering practices needed to support its growth across clinics.

What you’ll do

  • Own Bob Doc’s technical strategy and roadmap, aligning engineering priorities with clinical needs and business goals.
  • Evaluate and evolve the existing architecture to support reliability, maintainability and growth.
  • Lead the development of AI capabilities that use patient context effectively, with rigorous evaluation, clear limitations and appropriate clinician oversight.
  • Oversee security, privacy, access controls and auditability across the platform.
  • Establish strong engineering practices for testing, code review, releases, monitoring, incident response and recovery.
  • Lead integrations with healthcare systems and services, with attention to data accuracy and dependable clinical workflows.
  • Recruit, mentor and lead engineers, establishing clear ownership and a culture of thoughtful, accountable delivery.
  • Work closely with the founder and clinicians to understand how the product performs in practice and turn feedback into improvements.
  • Make sound decisions about infrastructure, technical partners and development priorities, balancing capability, cost and complexity.

What we’re looking for

  • Senior technical leadership experience, with a track record of delivering substantial software products and leading engineering teams.
  • A strong software engineering foundation and the ability to remain closely involved in architecture, implementation and technical problem-solving.
  • Experience designing and operating secure cloud applications, APIs, databases and integrations.
  • Practical experience with applied AI or LLM-based products, including evaluation, reliability and responsible handling of sensitive data.
  • Experience recruiting and developing engineers and establishing effective development processes.
  • Sound judgment about technical trade-offs and the ability to explain decisions clearly to both technical and nontechnical colleagues.
  • An entrepreneurial approach, strong ownership and comfort working in an early-stage company.

Experience building EMR/EHR systems or related healthcare technology is strongly preferred. Knowledge of clinical workflows, healthcare interoperability and the Canadian healthcare environment would be especially valuable.
