Position Overview

The Assistant General Manager – Civil Design will lead the Civil & Structural Design function for utility-scale Solar PV projects or BESS. The position requires a senior engineering professional capable of managing the complete civil design lifecycle, starting from pre-bid engineering, feasibility and concept development through optimization and detailed engineering.

The role will be responsible for developing technically robust, cost-effective and constructible civil and structural solutions for large-scale solar & BESS projects, while ensuring coordination between Project Execution, consultants, clients and Owners’ Engineers.

Core Responsibilities

The primary responsibility is to provide technical leadership and governance for all Civil & Structural Engineering activities associated with solar or BESS projects.

Key Areas Of Responsibility Include

  • Site development, grading and earthwork.
  • Plant layouts and site infrastructure.
  • MMS/tracker foundations, pile and pile-cap foundations.
  • RCC and structural steel works.
  • Inverter and transformer foundations.
  • Control rooms, SCADA buildings and associated structures.
  • Switchyard and substation civil works.
  • Cable trenches, internal roads and access roads.
  • Culverts, cross-drainage and storm-water drainage.
  • Boundary walls, fencing, gates and security infrastructure.
  • Water management and rainwater harvesting systems.
  • Other Balance-of-Plant civil infrastructure.

The incumbent will review and approve design calculations, drawings, specifications, BOQs and technical documentation, ensuring that engineering outputs are accurate, constructible, economical and compliant with project requirements.

Particular emphasis will be placed on reviewing topographical surveys, geotechnical investigations, hydrology studies, soil parameters and pile-test results and translating these inputs into appropriate site-specific foundation and civil solutions. Effective interfaces between Civil, Structural, Electrical and Mechanical disciplines will also be critical.

Key Deliverables / KPIs

The incumbent will be accountable for measurable engineering and business outcomes, including:

  • Timely release of approved Civil & Structural engineering deliverables.
  • High design accuracy and reduction of design-related rework.
  • Optimization of civil BOQs and quantities.
  • Engineering cost reduction through value engineering.
  • Timely closure of design comments and RFIs.
  • Reduction of site execution issues arising from design.
  • Compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Quality and completeness of IFC/GFC drawings.
  • Effective management of consultants and technical vendors.
  • Successful technical support for tender submissions.
  • Development of standardized solar civil design practices.
  • Improvement of Civil Design team capability and productivity.

The Expected Experience Profile Is

  • 12–15 years of overall Civil & Structural Engineering experience.
  • Strong Solar EPC / Renewable Energy / Infrastructure exposure.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of relevant utility-scale Solar PV experience.
  • Proven experience leading Civil Design/Engineering teams
  • Experience in 300 MW+ ground-mounted solar projects strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to large-scale, multi-project solar portfolios is an added advantage.

Relevant software skills include: AutoCAD | STAAD.Pro | Civil 3D | MS Excel |

Knowledge of additional structural, geotechnical, hydrology and solar-design software will be an advantage.
