Original job description
Senior Backend Developer - BoostSecurity (Montreal, QC)
BoostSecurity secures the software supply chain for engineering organizations. Our platform covers the whole path from developer to production: code, dependencies, CI/CD pipelines, containers and cloud. It connects to GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps and Bitbucket, finds the risks that matter, and puts the fix in front of the developer who can apply it. [One line on customers or funding stage that you're comfortable making public.]
We're a small, senior team, and we build software differently from how we did a few years ago. Each of our developers works with a team of AI coding agents. Agents draft the plans, write the code and tests, and run in parallel across many repositories. The developer owns the architecture, the judgment calls and the quality bar. If you've wondered what senior engineering looks like when writing the code is no longer the bottleneck, we'd like to show you.
You'll love this role if you:
- Want to ship real features to customers in days, not quarters
- Have started using AI agents as real collaborators, not just autocomplete, and want to push that further
- Care more about getting the design right, about correctness and clean code, than about how many lines you wrote
- Like owning a feature from the problem statement through to production and its on-call
What you'll do:
- Shape the architecture of an event-driven platform built on Python microservices, Kafka, MariaDB and GraphQL, running on AWS and Kubernetes
- Turn product intent into plans and tasks, then direct agents to carry them out across services, often as stacked PRs in several repos at once
- Review, challenge and sharpen what agents produce. You are the last line of defence for correctness, security and maintainability.
- Improve the tools that make the team fast: skills, agent workflows, CI and test infrastructure. Encoding what you know so agents get it right the next time is part of the job.
- Hold a high testing bar (we target 100% coverage across unit, integration and module tests) and keep continuous deployment safe
- Work with Product, Frontend and Security Research to decide what's worth building
- Mentor teammates, both on the code and on how to work well with agents
- Take part in on-call: diagnose production issues with Datadog, Kafka lag metrics and logs, and fix the root cause
What we're looking for:
- [7/4]+ years building high-quality, high-performance backends, ideally event-driven microservices
- Strong Python. Go, Rust or TypeScript is a plus, since our scanners and dashboard use them.
- Cloud-native experience on AWS, with infrastructure as code (Terraform) and Kubernetes
- A record of diagnosing hard problems in distributed systems: performance bottlenecks, consumer lag, race conditions, database contention
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot agents or similar), and opinions on where it helps and where it hurts
- Good engineering judgment: you can tell a plausible change from a correct one, and you read code critically, including code you didn't write
- Clear written communication. Plans, PR descriptions and agent instructions are now central engineering work.
- Self-directed and comfortable with autonomy
Nice to have:
- Application security, supply-chain security or DevSecOps background (SAST, SCA, SBOMs, CI/CD security)
- Experience with source-control platform APIs (GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps)
- Helm, ArgoCD and continuous deployment experience
- Experience building tools or workflows around LLMs
More about this job
Responsibilities
Design and evolve an event-driven platform built with Python microservices, Kafka, MariaDB, GraphQL, AWS, and Kubernetes, using AI agents to plan and implement features across services. Review agent-generated work for correctness, security, and maintainability; improve development and testing workflows; collaborate across teams; mentor colleagues; and participate in on-call support.
Requirements
The role seeks a developer with 7 or more years of backend experience, strong Python skills, and experience with AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, and distributed systems. Candidates should have hands-on experience with AI-assisted development, sound engineering judgment, clear written communication, and the ability to work autonomously.
