Position Summary
At Boundary Equipment, engineering does not stop at the drawing. Our work reaches the shop floor, the field, and some of the most demanding open-pit mining operations in the world. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer, Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or experienced Engineering Technologist to join our core engineering team and help design, improve, inspect, and support large mechanical components built for extreme operating conditions.
This is not a narrow drafting role. You will move between SolidWorks and AutoCAD, dimensional inspection results, the shop floor, supplier discussions, rebuild activity, and field information. You will work alongside engineers, tradespeople, purchasing and production teams, suppliers, and customers to turn incomplete information and complex equipment challenges into practical, manufacturable solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to new product development and improve existing Boundary components, considering manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, safety, and field performance.
- Create accurate 3D models, manufacturing drawings, specifications, and technical documentation using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Reverse engineer new and repaired components using dimensional inspection, measurement, scanning, technical research, and analysis of field and shop information.
- Work with the engineering and shop teams to troubleshoot manufacturing and repair challenges, clarify technical requirements, and develop practical solutions.
- Support quality control and inspection activities using measurement and metrology tools, including calipers and micrometers.
- Interpret inspection results against engineering drawings, technical procedures, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
- Participate in field and site inspections of mining equipment using Boundary-approved procedures, document findings, and develop technical recommendations.
- Support mining component rebuilds through inspection planning, failure analysis, technical reporting, scope development, costing input, and workflow execution.
- Research OEM part information, materials, operating conditions, and emerging mining technologies to identify product and process improvement opportunities.
- Provide purchasing and production teams with drawings, procedures, standards, and technical decisions required to manufacture Boundary products.
- Collaborate with suppliers during quotation, technical review, production, and inspection to resolve issues and confirm requirements.
- Support the calibration and control of inspection tools and equipment.
- Follow Boundary Equipment’s ISO 9001 quality management policies and procedures.
- Contribute technical information to innovation and SR&ED documentation as required.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, including the ability to create accurate, manufacturing-ready 3D models and drawings.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances, dimensional inspection, and how components perform in service.
- Hands-on technical capability and practical mechanical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and collaborate with engineers, tradespeople, suppliers, customers, and business partners.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to technical work.
- Ability to manage changing priorities while maintaining accuracy, safety, quality, and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications And Experience
- Current registration or eligibility for registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist, Engineer-in-Training, or Professional Engineer.
- Experience with mining equipment, heavy mobile equipment, industrial machinery, hydraulic systems, or component rebuilds.
- Experience with reverse engineering, 3D scanning, dimensional inspection, metrology, failure analysis, quality control, or quality management systems.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, machining, fabrication, repair, or field-service operations.
- Knowledge of open-pit mining equipment or heavy-equipment components.
