Original job description

Lead from the shop floor. Build the next generation. Power the future at Janox.

For over 50 years, Janox Fluid Power Ltd. has been a trusted leader in the design, supply, and installation of custom turnkey hydraulic systems for heavy industry throughout British Columbia. Through our team of experienced and motivated professionals, Janox has earned a reputation for delivering innovative hydraulic solutions to customers in the mining, forestry, hydro-electric, marine, and industrial sectors.

As part of Boundary Mining Group, we are committed to engineering excellence, quality craftsmanship, and building lasting partnerships with our customers. We take pride in tackling complex challenges, delivering exceptional service, and fostering a workplace where collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement drive everything we do.

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Shop Foreman to lead our manufacturing and repair operations. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll spend as much time developing people as you will coordinating the work. You’ll lead from the shop floor - coaching, mentoring, removing obstacles, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

If you’re passionate about building high-performing teams, developing future leaders, and creating an environment where people can do their best work, we’d love to hear from you.

The Leader We’re Looking For

This is more than a traditional Shop Foreman role. We’re looking for a leader who enjoys being on the shop floor, supporting the team, solving problems alongside employees, and leading by example.

You’ll be someone who naturally builds trust and strong working relationships across all levels of the organization. You’ll recognize individual strengths, coach employees to reach their potential, and help create a culture where people feel supported, challenged, and proud of the work they do.

A key part of your success will be developing our next generation of leaders. You’ll identify high-potential employees, provide mentorship and growth opportunities, and help build clear succession plans that strengthen both our team and our business for the future.

We’re looking for someone who believes that strong teams are built through communication, accountability, respect, and continuous learning - and who understands that investing in people is just as important as delivering quality work.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day activities of the shop while working closely with Engineering, Purchasing, and Customer Service.

Your responsibilities will include:

Lead, mentor, and coach shop employees through regular feedback, hands-on support, and ongoing skill development.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture built on trust, respect, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Identify high-potential employees and help develop succession plans that support long-term team growth.
Work with employees to establish development goals and create opportunities for cross-training and career advancement.
Build strong relationships across Engineering, Production Coordination, Purchasing, Customer Service, and other departments to ensure seamless communication and execution.
Plan, coordinate, and prioritize daily production activities to ensure customer commitments are met safely and efficiently.
Work closely with the Production Coordinator to execute production schedules and respond to changing priorities.
Monitor workflow, labour allocation, and shop capacity to maximize productivity and efficiency.
Ensure all work meets Janox quality standards and customer specifications.
Promote and enforce safe work practices while ensuring compliance with company policies and WorkSafeBC regulations.
Support troubleshooting and problem-solving for manufacturing, assembly, machining, hydraulic cylinder rebuilds, hydraulic systems, and component repairs.
Review work orders, drawings, and production documentation to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
Coordinate equipment maintenance and ensure shop tools and equipment remain in safe working condition.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, workflow, and operational performance.

What You Bring

We’re looking for a leader who is equally comfortable mentoring people as they are solving technical challenges.

Qualifications include:

Journeyperson certification in Millwright, Machining, Heavy Duty Mechanics, Industrial Mechanics, or a related trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment.
Previous experience leading or supervising employees in a shop or manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, machining, fabrication, welding, or heavy industrial equipment.
Proven ability to build strong relationships, motivate teams, and foster a positive workplace culture.
Demonstrated coaching, mentoring, and employee development experience.
Excellent organizational, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Experience using ERP systems and Microsoft Office is considered an asset.

What Success Looks Like

In this role, you’ll help ensure our operations run smoothly by:

Leading a safe, engaged, and high-performing shop team.
Building a culture where employees feel supported, accountable, and motivated to succeed.
Developing future leaders through mentorship, coaching, and succession planning.
Delivering projects on schedule without compromising quality or safety.
Strengthening collaboration between Engineering, Production Coordination, Purchasing, and the shop floor.
Continuously improving operational efficiency, communication, and workflow.
Maintaining exceptional customer satisfaction through quality workmanship and reliable execution.

Why Join Janox?

At Janox, you’ll join a team of highly skilled professionals who design, manufacture, repair, and install hydraulic systems for some of Canada’s most demanding industries. Every project presents new technical challenges and opportunities to make a meaningful impact.

As our Shop Foreman, you’ll have the opportunity to shape not only our operations but also the future of our team. You’ll play a key role in developing our people, strengthening our culture, and helping position Janox for continued growth and success.

We offer:

Competitive compensation.
Quarterly profit sharing plan, effective following one year of service.
Comprehensive health and dental benefits.
Opportunities for professional growth and leadership development.
A collaborative, respectful, and safety-focused workplace.
Stable, long-term employment with an established Canadian manufacturer and a division of Boundary Mining Group.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment specializing in hydraulic cylinders, custom hydraulic systems, and component repair.
Occasional local field work, overtime, and weekend work may be required to support customer and operational needs.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Fast-paced environment requiring strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform work in a manufacturing shop environment.

Ready to Lead Our Team?

If you’re a hands-on leader who believes that great businesses are built by developing great people, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply today and help lead a team that’s powering industry through innovation, quality, and exceptional customer service - while building the next generation of talent at Janox Fluid Power.
