Original job description
Your Day-to-Day
As an intermediate member of our electrical team, you will contribute to the development, production, and coordination of electrical systems for a variety of building projects. You will play a key role in transforming design concepts into fully coordinated building models and construction documents, working independently on routine tasks while collaborating with engineers and senior staff on complex systems and projects.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop technical designs and layouts for lighting, power distribution, electrical service rooms, load calculations, fire alarms, and emergency generator systems.
- Own and maintain high-quality, coordinated electrical 3D models using Revit from concept design through to issued-for-construction packages.
- Produce detailed electrical drawings, plans, single-line diagrams, and full construction document packages using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Coordinate electrical layouts proactively with structural, architectural, and mechanical disciplines to resolve spatial and systemic clashes.
- Execute engineering tasks and drafting activities with minimal supervision, leveraging senior staff for complex system design validation.
- Participate actively in multidisciplinary coordination meetings and project milestone reviews.
- Assist with BIM coordination, clash detection, and model management activities to maintain project health and standards.
- Ensure strict compliance with project workflows, client requirements, applicable regional codes, and engineering standards.
- Manage construction administration tasks, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), participating in site progress meetings, and conducting routine site reviews.
- Contribute to diverse project sectors, including healthcare, education, commercial, residential, institutional, and data centres.
- Education: College diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or a closely related technical discipline.
- Experience: 3 to 6 years of direct, progressive experience designing building electrical systems within a consulting engineering environment.
- Software Proficiency: Strong, practical proficiency with Autodesk Revit (3D model production) and AutoCAD workflows in a professional environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of building electrical systems operating at 750V and below, including equipment selection and circuiting sizing.
- Codes & Standards: Strong working knowledge of applicable regulatory codes, specifically:
- Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) - current 2024 edition
- Ontario Building Code (OBC)
- Relevant CAN/ULC standards (e.g., CAN/ULC-S524 for Fire Alarm installations)
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to coordinate across disciplines and interface with project partners.
- Professional Designation: Active registration or clear eligibility for certification as a C.E.T. (Certified Engineering Technologist) or C.Tech. with OACETT.
- BIM Management: Experience using Navisworks Manage for clash detection, or contributing to internal corporate BIM best practices.
- Specialized Sector Experience: Specific design exposure to institutional, healthcare, educational, commercial, residential, or data centre projects.
- A culture built on collaboration, knowledge sharing, talent development, and the quality of our work.
- A 37.5-hour workweek with flexible scheduling and the possibility of finishing at noon on Fridays.
- A hybrid work policy that promotes balance between professional and personal life.
- Overtime hours that are recognized and compensated, either through time off in lieu or paid compensation.
- A competitive total compensation package, including a comprehensive group insurance plan and an RRSP program with employer contributions.
- A structured training and professional development program supported by UniversiT, our internal entity dedicated to the technical and personal growth of every employee.
- A structured Mentorship Program that connects early-career professionals with experienced mentors to kick-start your BPA career.
- Cutting-edge technology, including BIM and modern collaborative tools.
- The “Finding Balance” program, which promotes overall well-being, mental health, and sustainable productivity.
