Position: Bilingual (French) Early Years Educator, RECE

Reports to: Supervisor, EarlyON

Salary: $24.81 – $29.00 (based on experience and qualifications)

Hours: 35 hours per week (Permanent Fulltime)

Job Summary

The Bilingual Early Years Educator is responsible for delivering high quality play-based early learning programs to children (age birth - 6) and their caregivers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Delivery – in French/English*

Develop and implement child-directed, quality early learning activities using the ELECT curriculum, the Four Foundations of Learning (How Does Learning Happen) and BridgeWay’s program standardizations for children 0 – 6 years of age and their parents/caregivers
Engage children in planned programs by utilizing various pedagogical approaches which reflect and include the children’s interests and needs
Communicate purpose and goals of activities with parents/caregivers in relation to child development, safe risk taking and the value of child-directed play
Provide emotional support, information and role modelling for parents and caregivers raising young children
Work with Manager to develop programs that meet the ongoing needs of clients
Work as part of a team with other team members, students and volunteers
Greet and provide information to clients in a friendly and compassionate manner
Use appropriate tracking system to record client attendance and resource use
Provide families with agency referrals and contact information as needed
Ensure onsite community resources are accurate and up-to-date (i.e. pamphlets)
Ensure cultural sensitivity and client confidentiality are preserved at all times
Set-up and clean-up of programs
Support children through supervised care while families participate in educational sessions
Responsible for complete set-up and take-down as well as all aspects of programming when operating at a satellite location
Provide phone support and referrals during all business hours
Ensure facilities and resources are safe, clean and well maintained
Demonstrate tact and diplomacy when discussing resources or information related to the needs of families
Engage with children and parents/caregivers in an attentive, encouraging and positive manner

*Programs are offered outdoors and indoors

Program Support

Follow all conditions and guidelines of agreements, permits or leases to maintain favourable relations; reporting and documenting all concerns or occurrences
Gather and analyze monthly statistics before submission to Supervisor and or Manager
Work collaboratively with the Manager/Director to establish new partnerships with a diverse range of community agencies and actively participate in Francophone community tables to strengthen engagement and collaboration.
Ensure that adequate supplies, materials, and resources are available and prepared to support the successful delivery of all programs
Utilize agency surveys to evaluate the success of programs and follow guidelines
Provide mentorship, support and direction to colleagues, students and volunteers as outlined by agency expectations (i.e. site trained on emergency procedures, program expectations and opportunities for professional growth etc.)
Responsible for the program sign-in process and resource tracking
Evaluate program success, report and periodically review with Manager
Update site procedures annually as applicable

Networking

Participate on committees, in meetings and attend training sessions both on-site and off-site as directed by the Manager, Pedagogy or Director, Programs and Partnerships
Ensure promotion of BridgeWay Family Centre programs/services

Other Activities

Respond to any additional funder requirements as directed by management
Act as a fund development advocate by following expectation of the agency’s Fund Development Plan
Participate in outreach events as determined by the Manager particularly those targeted to the Francophone community
Keep informed by reading staff newsletters, agency notices as well as partner notices
Assist in the creation of French communications for the agency (i.e. flyers, resources, etc.)

Qualifications

Degree/diploma in Early Childhood Education or approved equivalency;
RECE in good standing with the College of ECE
Minimum level A or B required for oral/written French
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a related field
Intermediate First Aid/CPR B or C
Vulnerable Sector Check
Self-motivated, takes initiative and works well within a team environment
Well-developed interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Ability to work some flexible hours
Additional language(s) an asset
Must be able to travel regularly between multiple sites for programs, outreach, and meetings (required)
