About The Role
About the Role
The Respite Support Aide provides direct support to children under 12 with Autism Spectrum Disorder in their
homes and in community settings. This role works closely with families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary
teams to implement individualized support plans and promote meaningful participation in daily life. You will be
a consistent, trusted presence for the children and families you serve - flexible, resourceful, and driven by
genuine care.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Child/Youth Support
- Provide trauma-informed, individualized support to children under 12 with ASD in home and community
settings
- Implement goals and strategies outlined in each child’s Individual Program Plan (IPP)
- Support skill-building in areas such as communication, self-regulation, social participation, and daily
living routines
- Use evidence-informed de-escalation and behaviour support strategies to help children navigate
challenging moments
- Model and encourage positive engagement, independence, and community participation
Family & Community Collaboration
- Build respectful, trust-based relationships with families, caregivers, and natural supports
- Liaise with caseworkers, FSCD coordinators, school personnel, and community service providers
- Support families in accessing and navigating services and community resources
- Advocate for each child’s full and meaningful participation in community life
Documentation & Planning
- Complete accurate and timely documentation including progress notes, daily logs, and incident reports
- Write and regularly update individualized safety plans in collaboration with the team and families
- Attend monthly staff meetings, case conferences, and professional development sessions
- Participate in ongoing training related to Autism support and child/youth-specific needs

Qualifications & Education
Required Knowledge
- Understanding and knowledge of CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities)
standards, policies, and procedures
- Familiarity with Alberta’s FSCD (Family Support for Children with Disabilities) program and how it
supports families of children with ASD
Required Education
- Certificate or Diploma in a Human Services field (Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Education
Assistant, Nursing, or equivalent)

Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with children under 12 with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Demonstrated experience implementing IPP goals and behaviour support strategies
- Experience working with or alongside FSCD, CFS, or multidisciplinary support teams is a strong asset
Required Certifications &Clearances
- CPR First Aid Level C (current)
- Police Information Check (completed within the last 6 months)
- Child Intervention Record Check (completed within the last 6 months)
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Reliable personal vehicle with third-party liability insurance
- Willingness to complete additional Autism-specific training as required
Assets (not required, but valued)
- Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Mandt, or equivalent
- Training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) or other autism-specific frameworks
- Knowledge of or connection to Indigenous cultures and communities
- Experience supporting children in home-based or community-based settings

Mandatory Requirements
All of the following must be in place before your start date. Failure to provide valid documentation will affect your ability to begin employment:
- CPR First Aid Level C
- Police Information Check (completed within 6 months)
- Child Intervention Record Check (completed within 6 months)
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence & reliable personal vehicle with third-party liability insurance
- Certificate or Diploma in a Human Services field
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with children under 12 with ASD
- Willingness to attend and complete additional Autism-specific training
Job Type
Part-Time
Salary
$20.55 – $22.35 per hour
Ability to Commute/Relocate
Edmonton, AB: reliably commute (required) or reliable personal vehicle with third-party liability insurance
