Brock University has identified fostering a culture of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation, and decolonization as a strategic priority. The Department of Educational Studies is deeply committed to both the process and goal of social justice, including critical inquiry, inclusive practices, and equitable participation. We prioritize approaches, leadership and curricula that make central issues of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and disability to challenge historical, and ongoing forms of oppression and marginalization in school and society. Our Teacher Education Program invites applicants who are deeply committed to equity and social justice approaches, including making central to their knowledge human rights issues of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, and socio-economic contexts as they interact with students, colleagues, and peers.

Overview:

The Practicum Advisor (PA) position is largely focused on connecting the learning in EDBE 8F01, the foundational courses associated with year 1, to the field of practice by supporting the development of teacher candidates as culturally responsive and competent practitioners. Practicum Advisors (PA) will use the log of professional practice in alignment with materials covered in 8F01 to engage students in conversations on educational inclusion and equity and pedagogy. PAs are expected to be aware of a variety of critical practices relevant to their field/subject area that can support all students, attend to unconscious biases (both self and teacher candidate), and encourage inclusivity.

You will also work with associate teachers (ATs) and respond to ATs correspondence in a timely manner.
