Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)

Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)

In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Qualifications

Current registration as Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
The successful applicant must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students, be punctual in attending classes, and be able to meet appropriate deadlines.
The successful candidate will independently facilitate weekly three-hour seminars, screening a recorded lecture, leading a one-hour structured group discussion, and running the prescribed graded activity, as the sole in-class facilitator.
Applicants must be comfortable delivering a range of interactive learning formats across the course's mental health, gerontology, critical care, home and community nursing, including role plays and handovers, card-sort and clinical-judgment games, health-data analysis, and case-based discussion, using the provided facilitation guides and answer keys to keep content accurate and consistent across sections.
The role requires strong group facilitation, time management, and assessment skills, including circulating and prompting during small-group work, managing timed activity rounds, leading debriefs, and fairly grading weekly student participation and activity performance in Brightspace.
