Original job description

Who we are

Bronte Construction builds heavy civil, marine, foundation and environmental infrastructure across Ontario: bridges, outfalls, slope stabilization, dam decommissioning, for municipal, provincial and federal owners. We've been at it since 2009, growing deliberately into four distinct service lines. We're COR® 2020 certified through the IHSA, which matters to the public owners who hire us and to how seriously we take running the business behind the work.

What you'll own

  • Full-cycle hiring for salaried, office and technical roles and for seasonal and permanent positions
  • Performance cycles, which include goals and competencies, check-ins, annual reviews and improvement plans, coaching managers and keeping documentation consistent.
  • First point of contact for employees and managers on questions, attendance, conduct, leaves and documentation. You'll know when to handle it and when to take it to the Director of HR the same day.
  • Keep each company's procedures up to date and clearly marked as current.
  • Applicant tracking, records and onboarding, with each employer's information kept separate, plus monthly reporting on hiring and performance-cycle progress.
  • WSIB claim paperwork, return-to-work and modified-work offers, training records and Joint Health and Safety Committee meeting administration. Safety and operations leaders handle technical safety decisions.
  • Coach managers and supervisors at both companies on hiring and performance conversations, and share your know-how with our HR Coordinator.

Where this sits

This is a senior individual-contributor role reporting to the Director of Human Resources, working alongside our HR Coordinator.

Where you'll work

In person, based at our head office, 5510 Mainway, Burlington, Ontario, with regular on-site work at our sister company in Oakville.

What you need

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive generalist HR experience, including recruiting for both professional and front-line roles, and employee relations.
  • Hands-on performance management experience
  • Working knowledge of Ontario employment legislation as it affects HR: the Employment Standards Act, the Human Rights Code, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the basics of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including the 2026 job-posting rules.
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in human resources, business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting more than one site, business or leader, and the judgment to know when to escalate.
  • Comfort being the HR person people can walk up to, in an office, a yard or a trailer.

What helps but isn't required

  • CHRP in progress or an equivalent designation counts.
  • Experience in construction, trades, distribution, retail yards or a seasonal workforce.
  • BambooHR experience or other HRIS Systems.
  • WSIB claims and return-to-work experience

What we offer

  • $80,000 – $100,000 per year base salary, based on experience
  • Health, dental and wellness benefits
  • Group RRSP with DPSP matching
  • Professional development support, including your continuing HR designation requirements
  • A broad, hands-on HR seat across two businesses, with a Director of HR who wants a generalist who can run the work

Start date

Target start: January 2027.
