Overview
Brookfield Renewable is one of the world's largest owners, operators, and developers of renewable power assets. Our Operational Strategy team plays a critical role in advancing the technology, processes, and operational capabilities that support Brookfield's North American Trading, Marketing, Scheduling, Risk, and Energy Management organizations.
Reporting to the Director, Operational Strategy, the Business Analyst serves as a key liaison between business stakeholders, technology teams, and operational groups. This role is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve business processes, leading system implementations and enhancements, supporting operational excellence initiatives, and delivering data-driven solutions that enable scalable growth across Brookfield's renewable energy portfolio.
The successful candidate combines strong business analysis skills with operational understanding, analytical capabilities, and a passion for process improvement and technology-driven transformation.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Solution Delivery
- Partner with stakeholders across Trading, Marketing, Scheduling, Settlements, Asset Management, Operations, and Risk Management to identify business needs and improvement opportunities.
- Lead requirements gathering sessions, workshops, interviews, and process reviews.
- Prepare Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), Business Concept Documents (BCDs), user stories, process maps, and functional specifications.
- Translate business requirements into actionable system and process solutions.
- Challenge assumptions and help stakeholders identify optimal approaches to achieve business objectives.
- Document current-state ("As-Is") and future-state ("To-Be") business processes.
Process Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Identify process inefficiencies, operational risks, control gaps, and manual workarounds.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, scalability, efficiency, and reliability.
- Assess impacts of organizational, regulatory, and business changes on operational processes.
- Develop recommendations to improve controls, audit readiness, compliance, and reporting capabilities.
- Support operational maturity initiatives and standardization efforts across business functions.
Systems & Technology
- Support enhancement, implementation, and optimization of:
- ETRM platforms
- Scheduling and transmission systems
- Data platforms and reporting solutions
- Workflow and automation tools
- Integration solutions between internal and external systems
- Investigate system issues and coordinate resolution activities with business and technology teams.
- Participate in solution design reviews and validation activities.
- Support configuration testing and deployment activities.
Data & Analytics
- Analyze operational, financial, and transactional data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities.
- Develop data-driven insights that support decision-making.
- Support reporting, KPI development, operational dashboards, and management reporting.
- Perform root-cause analysis using available data sources.
- Collaborate with technical teams to define data requirements and validation criteria.
Testing & Change Management
- Develop testing strategies, test plans, and test cases.
- Coordinate and lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Validate delivered functionality against business requirements.
- Support stakeholder communications, training, and change management activities.
- Ensure operational readiness prior to production deployments.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
- Maintain business process documentation, procedures, training materials, and knowledge repositories.
- Ensure documentation remains accurate, current, and audit-ready.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of operational knowledge bases and self-service resources.
Innovation & Automation
- Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies, AI solutions, advanced analytics, and automation platforms.
- Support initiatives involving Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform, workflow automation, and modern collaboration tools.
- Participate in strategic projects that improve operational efficiency and business scalability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Business Analysis, Process Improvement, Operations, Energy Markets, Technology Delivery, or a related discipline.
- Strong experience gathering, documenting, and validating business requirements.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing complex business processes and designing practical solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting energy trading, risk management, scheduling, settlements, or power operations.
- Experience with ETRM platforms and energy market applications.
- Familiarity with North American electricity markets, transmission, scheduling, and renewable energy operations.
