Our team of approximately 70 employees in Canada and the US are at the heart of our business. We have in-house employee teams in product design, marketing, operations, sales, supply chain, customer service, finance, information technology, human resources, warehouse operations, and logistics. JOB SUMMARY
This BD Manager role drives sales growth and expands emerging channels across Canada by identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities with mass-market retailers. The focus is on opening new accounts, with a secondary focus on growing existing accounts. This role leads pipeline development, so sales opportunities are always developing and closing.
Executes initiatives including dropship and direct import programs, and partners cross-functionally to deliver successful product launches and sales growth. This position drives revenue, margin, and distribution targets while building strong customer relationships and sustainable business.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
New Channel and Mass Market Focus (80%)
- Identify new Cdn. mass market retailers (national accounts, regional chains) or lines or products
- Support and execute dropship programs
- Support development of new sales channels including direct imports, private label and OEM sales
Strategy & Growth
- Execute BD plans to achieve revenue, margin, and distribution targets across potential new customers and channels identified
- Build and manage a strong pipeline of new business opportunities with system tracking
- Identify, pursue, and close new customer accounts and channel opportunities
- Drive growth within existing accounts through assortment expansion, promotions, and new product introductions
- Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and customer needs to identify sales opportunities
- Support new product launches and ensure successful sell-in across key accounts
Dropship
- Support execution of the Canadian dropship program, including onboarding retail partners
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure product listings, content, pricing and fulfillment is met
- Monitor performance and identify opportunities to grow online sales
Direct Import
- Support development and execution of direct import programs with retail partners
- Collaborate with internal teams to align product specifications, pricing, and timelines
- Assist in managing customer communication and program execution
Account Management & Customer Engagement (20%)
- Conduct regular customer meetings, presentations, business and line reviews
- Maintain accurate pipeline reporting and sales forecasts
- Identify and develop opportunities to grow market share within existing customers
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with marketing, product management, supply chain, and customer service teams
- Provide customer/market feedback to support product development and go-to-market strategies
- Assist in the execution of annual sales plans and promotional activities
KPIs
- Revenue and margin growth within existing and new accounts and channels
- New accounts opened and new business secured
- Pipeline full of opportunities at different stages with good close rate and forecast accuracy
- Growth in accounts assortment and sales
- Customer satisfaction and retention
- Execution of sales plans, promotions, and product launches
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Experience
- 8+ years of experience in retail sales targeted at mass-market retailers within retail, wholesale, CPG, housewares or “lifestyle brand” products (excluding Amazon)
- Experience with mass-market retailers at the national or regional level (not independents or reps.)
- Proven track record of identifying and winning new business to grow customer base
- Understanding of dropship or e-commerce programs is an asset
- Experience working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
Skills
- Strong commercial mindset with ability to identify, act and close on growth opportunities
- Strong organizational and CRM pipeline management skills for own use and management visibility
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Highly self-motivated, driven to win new business with a hands-on, execution approach
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Travel approx. 25% within Canada for customer development meetings
