We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer, HVAC & Building Services, to support an Industrial & Infrastructure team on a 6-month contract. The successful candidate will develop 2D and 3D mechanical designs, prepare detailed engineering drawings and construction deliverables, support estimating and cost-planning activities, and design industrial HVAC, plumbing, sanitary, fire protection, and piping systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical drawings in both 2D and 3D design environments.
- Prepare detailed design deliverables, including plans, sections, details, and schedules.
- Produce design drawings in accordance with project-specific criteria, applicable regulations, codes, and industry standards.
- Maintain consistency and quality of design documentation across multiple projects in alignment with office and industry standards.
- Design industrial and building HVAC air-movement systems and building utilities, including steam and condensate, natural gas, compressed air, domestic and chilled water, fire protection, sanitary and storm drainage systems, and associated piping networks.
- Support building estimating activities, including quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and material lists for mechanical and building systems to inform project budgeting and planning.
- Collaborate with project teams to align design solutions with cost constraints and constructability considerations.
- Comply with all client corporate policies and procedures, including Quality Assurance and Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma or equivalent.
- Five to ten years of relevant mechanical design and drafting experience for building services, including HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing systems, within a consulting engineering environment.
- Ability to efficiently produce designs in AutoCAD.
- Ability to source and use vendor data, drawings, and information to develop designs.
- Knowledge of applicable industry and regulatory standards, regulations, and codes.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and produce drawings within established deadlines and budgets.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel independently to project sites for meetings, field measurements, and related activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience supporting industrial, institutional, and commercial projects.
- Experience with mechanical estimating, quantity take-offs, cost planning, and constructability reviews.
