Turnaround Cost Controller

Location: Calgary, AB

Type: Contract

Duration: Dec 31, 2027 with potential extension

Introduction:

Reporting to the Director, Turnarounds N&P, the Contract Cost Controller is a member of the centralized Turnaround Controls team responsible for supporting the governance, standardization, reporting, and continuous improvement of turnaround cost management processes across multiple operating sites.

This position provides analytical support, develops standardized reporting solutions, and assists site turnaround teams with cost reporting, forecasting, and performance analysis. The role plays a key part in maintaining consistent project controls practices, improving data quality, and delivering enterprise reporting through digital solutions including Power BI, Microsoft Azure, and Power Automate.

The successful candidate combines strong cost control fundamentals with exceptional analytical and technical skills to support data-driven decision-making and enhance the maturity of turnaround project controls.

Responsibilities:

Turnaround Cost Controls Support

Support the Senior Turnaround Controls Specialist in the implementation and execution of enterprise turnaround cost management standards.
Assist site turnaround teams with cost reporting, forecasting, accruals, and budget performance monitoring – as required
Prepare standardized cost reports and dashboards for multiple turnaround portfolios.

Governance & Standardization

Promote standardized cost management processes across all turnaround sites.
Support development and maintenance of templates, reporting standards, and cost management procedures.
Assist with quality assurance reviews of site cost reports and forecasting practices.

Reporting & Digital Solutions

Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards supporting turnaround planning and execution and reporting solutions to reduce manual effort and improve reporting accuracy.
Assist with maintaining centralized reporting datasets and data models.

Stakeholder Support

Collaborate with site Turnaround Managers, Site Controllers, Schedulers, Project Managers, Finance, and Operations.
Respond to requests for cost analysis and reporting from turnaround stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

Degree or Diploma in Business, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Project Controls, or related discipline.
5+ years of experience in cost control, project controls, or financial analysis supporting capital projects or turnarounds.

Technical Skills

Required:

Advanced Microsoft Excel, SAP or similar ERP systems (Oracle)
Variance analysis and data visualization

Preferred:

Primavera P6
Power BI (Power Query, DAX, data modelling, dashboard development), SQL, Power Apps

Core Competencies

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to influence through data and insights.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple operating sites.
Strong customer service orientation and stakeholder engagement skills.

Role Contribution

This position serves as an enterprise resource within the centralized Turnaround Controls organization, helping establish consistent project controls practices while enabling site turnaround teams with standardized reporting, analytics, governance support, and digital solutions.

The role contributes directly to improving portfolio visibility, forecasting accuracy, reporting efficiency, and decision-making across the turnaround program.
