Introduction

We are seeking a Veterinarian (DVM) to join our clients team located in Fort McMurray, AB. This role operates in a small animal hospital and will focus on clinical work. This is a great opportunity for a DVM looking to develop their skills in surgical and dental procedures. The successful candidate will combine medical knowledge, teamwork, and emotional intelligence to deliver excellent patient care and client service. The successful candidate will work with a team consisting of the Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager, six RVT’s, one Senior RVT, five Veterinary Assistants, and two DVM’s. This is a full-time permanent opportunity available immediately. Full-time requires 40 hours per week, 10 hours per day, 4 days per week. No weekend work is required. Additionally, relocation assistance is provided if deemed necessary.

The hospital itself is fully equipped for GP medicine, including an in-house laboratory, dedicated surgery suite, dental suite, and the equipment you would expect in a modern, well-established GP practice.

Responsibilities

Play a key role in delivering excellent patient care while contributing positively to the team environment.
Provide wellness exams, client education, dentistry, rehabilitation, in-house grooming, and a variety of surgical procedures.
Perform in-house diagnostics and support emergency cases.
Work as a sole veterinarian in the clinic, managing your own caseload independently.
Perform soft tissue surgery including routine procedures such as spays, neuters, and mass removals.
Conduct dental procedures, including scaling, polishing, and extractions.
Manage and stabilize urgent and emergency cases as they arise.
Contribute to treatment planning, medical decision-making, and continuity of care.
Offer rehabilitation services and support general patient recovery plans.

Requirements

Minimum 2 years of experience as a DVM (must have).
Posses a Certificate of Qualification issued by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association National Exam Board (NEB).
Must hold a license with the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association (ABVMA).
Comfortable with routine surgeries and basic dental procedures (must have).
Competent in dental procedures, including extractions.
Confident performing routine soft tissue surgeries (spays, neuters, mass removals, etc.).
Strong medical judgment, case management skills, and decision-making ability.
Ability to manage appointments, surgeries, and medical cases without on-site mentorship.
Excellent communication skills with a strong focus on client education and patient care.
French/English bilingualism is considered an asset.
