Original job description
BSI Canada (Best Services Int'l Freight Canada Ltd.) is the Canadian arm of BSI Global Logistics, an international freight forwarder headquartered in Shenzhen with more than 50 offices and 1,500 employees worldwide. From our Mississauga office and warehouse network across Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, we handle air and ocean freight, customs clearance, warehousing and Canada-US cross-border trucking.
We are hiring a Finance Supervisor to own the day-to-day finance and accounting of the Canadian entity and act as the finance partner to local management. This is not a pure bookkeeping role. We expect you to read the numbers, explain what is driving them, and flag issues before they become problems. You will work closely with operations, overseas agents and group finance in Shenzhen, and you will use both Mandarin and English every day.
AT A GLANCE
Position: Finance Supervisor
Company: Best Services Int'l Freight Canada Ltd. (BSI Canada)
Location: Mississauga, Ontario - on-site
Employment type: Full-time, permanent
Reports to: Country Manager, BSI Canada (functional line to Group Finance, Shenzhen)
Languages: English (professional business level) and Mandarin (fluent) - both essential
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Accounting operations
- Own the full accounting cycle: accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries, bank and credit card reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close.
- Invoice customers, monitor AR aging, follow up on collections, and resolve disputed charges with operations.
- Process vendor and carrier invoices, prepare payment runs, and verify charges against job files and rate confirmations.
- Record shipment-level revenue and cost accruals for air, ocean (FCL / LCL) and cross-border trucking jobs.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, accruals, prepayments and intercompany balances with group entities.
- Prepare and file GST / HST returns, support payroll inputs and source deduction remittances (CPP, EI, income tax), and provide information to external accountants for corporate tax filings.
- Keep records complete and audit-ready in line with CRA requirements and group accounting policies.
Financial analysis and insight
- Prepare the monthly management reporting package: P&L by customer, service line and branch, with variance analysis against budget.
- Run job-level margin analysis to surface loss-making shipments, rate leakage and billing errors.
- Support quotation and pricing decisions with cost build-up and customer profitability analysis.
- Assist in preparing the annual budget and rolling forecasts, including labour cost and headcount planning.
- Monitor working capital and cash flow: DSO / DPO trends, AR aging and settlement with overseas agents.
- Maintain straightforward KPI dashboards (revenue, gross profit, margin %, DSO, cost per shipment) and explain the story behind the numbers to management.
- Handle ad-hoc analysis requested by the Country Manager or group headquarters.
Group and cross-border coordination
- Serve as the finance interface between BSI Canada and group finance in Shenzhen and other overseas offices.
- Reconcile intercompany transactions and meet monthly group reporting deadlines.
- Translate group policies and reporting requirements into local practice.
Process and controls
- Document and improve finance SOPs and strengthen internal controls in a lean-team environment.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual work and shorten the close cycle.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with full-cycle ownership; supervisory or team-lead exposure preferred.
- Hands-on experience with reconciliations, accruals and month-end close.
- Working knowledge of Canadian sales tax (GST / HST) and CRA filing and record-keeping requirements.
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP / VLOOKUP, SUMIFS) and the ability to structure data for analysis.
- Professional business-level English (written and verbal).
- Fluent Mandarin for daily communication with group headquarters, overseas agents and Mandarin-speaking customers.
- Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable taking ownership in a small team.
Nice to have
- Experience in freight forwarding, logistics, customs brokerage, trucking or 3PL.
- CPA designation or active CPA program enrolment.
- Hands-on use of accounting or ERP systems (QuickBooks Online, Sage, NetSuite, SAP Business One) or freight platforms such as CargoWise.
- Intercompany accounting exposure in a multinational group.
- Power Query / Power BI for reporting automation.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Extended health and dental benefits, and paid vacation in line with Ontario employment standards.
- Support towards CPA annual dues and continuing professional development.
- Real growth potential towards a Finance Manager role as the Canadian entity expands.
- A collaborative, multilingual team focused on China-Canada trade.
