Status: Full-Time, Permanent

Buffalo Trail Public Schools is seeking a highly organized, technically skilled, and service-oriented professional to join our Central Services team as our Fleet Operations Coordinator.

This is an exciting opportunity to become a key member of our Central Services team, coordinating the division's fleet operations, transportation compliance, fleet technology, and regional logistics that support safe and efficient transportation services across Buffalo Trail Public Schools.

This position reflects Buffalo Trail Public Schools' commitment to strengthening fleet operations, transportation services, and operational support for schools and school bus contractors across the division.

If you enjoy improving systems, solving problems, working with technology, and building positive relationships, we'd love to hear from you.

About Buffalo Trail Public Schools

Buffalo Trail Public Schools (BTPS) serves approximately 3,800 students across 25 school sites in east-central Alberta. We are committed to maximizing student learning in a safe and caring environment, supported by a highly effective team, and are proud to provide Public Education that Fits Rural Life.

At BTPS, people are at the heart of everything we do. We believe strong relationships, collaboration, and innovation create the conditions for students and staff to thrive. Our schools are deeply connected to the communities they serve, and together we are committed to creating welcoming, inclusive, and supportive learning and working environments.

Working in a rural school division means being part of something bigger than any one school or department. It means joining a team that values service, continuous learning, and shared leadership.

About The Role

Reporting to the Director of Transportation, the Fleet Operations Coordinator provides division-wide coordination of fleet operations, transportation compliance, fleet technology, and regional logistics in support of Buffalo Trail Public Schools.

This role combines operational coordination, technical expertise, and customer service to help ensure the division's fleet remains safe, compliant, and responsive to the needs of schools and Central Office operations. Working collaboratively with school bus contractors, school administrators, and Central Office departments, the successful candidate will support effective fleet systems, regulatory compliance, and operational services across the division.

What You'll Do

Coordinate the division's fleet management program, including vehicle maintenance records, insurance, inspections, preventative maintenance scheduling, and fleet documentation.
Coordinate and support National Safety Code (NSC) compliance by maintaining required regulatory records and documentation.
Coordinate fleet technology, including two-way radio, GPS, and digital video surveillance systems on contracted school buses.
Coordinate and transport distribution of resources using an inter-school courier vehicle to support schools and Central Office operations.
Build collaborative relationships with contract bus operators, schools, vendors, and division departments.
Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance fleet operations, safety, efficiency, and customer service.
Provide support for the day to day operations in the Transportation Department.
Provide on-call support for the school bus drivers and contractors in the absence of the Director of Transportation.

What We're Looking For

Be highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
Demonstrate strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities.
Exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion.
Build positive relationships and provide exceptional customer service.
Take initiative and enjoy improving systems and processes.
Balance administrative responsibilities with hands-on operational support.
Work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Flexible in terms of daily schedule.

Qualifications and Experience

High school diploma required.
Post-secondary education in a related field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience coordinating fleet operations, transportation compliance, technical systems, or related operational services would be considered an asset.
Experience maintaining electronic databases or fleet management software.
Knowledge of National Safety Code requirements would be considered an asset.
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's Licence with a satisfactory driver's abstract.
Other qualifications the Division may find appropriate and acceptable.

Why Join BTPS?

At Buffalo Trail Public Schools, you'll join a collaborative and supportive team where your work contributes directly to the success of students, schools, and employees across the division. We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package in accordance with the terms and conditions of employment for out-of-scope employees.
