Shipper-Receiver & Bottle Preparation Technician

Bedford, Nova Scotia | Full-time | On-site

Department: Sample Logistics

Pay: CAD $17–$18 per hour

Schedule: Flexible working hours, shift work, and overtime are required.

Driving: A valid full driver’s license and a good driving record are required; you must provide a current driver’s abstract through the hiring process.

Pack it right. Keep science moving.

The right bottle. The right label. The right delivery. Reliable laboratory work depends on getting those details right before testing begins. If you enjoy hands-on work, organized shipments, and the satisfaction of doing a job carefully, bring those strengths to Bureau Veritas in Bedford.

Bureau Veritas is a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification. As a Shipper-Receiver & Bottle Preparation Technician, you will prepare and ship sample-collection kits, support safe laboratory operations, and make pickups and deliveries to clients and internal departments throughout the Bedford area.

This is an on-site role with local driving responsibilities. We are recruiting candidates already based in the local area who can reliably attend the Bedford worksite and meet delivery requirements.

What You Will Do

  • Prepare and label sample-collection bottles and containers; dispense acid or preservatives when required, following approved safety procedures.
  • Check bottle types, quantities, and labels against each order. Pack bottles securely in clean, serviceable coolers with the required packing materials, ice packs, and paperwork.
  • Seal and label shipments correctly, sort coolers by delivery requirements, and ensure samples and hazardous chemicals are shipped in accordance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements.
  • Receive incoming materials, maintain inventory of bottles, glassware, preservatives, and dispensing equipment, and keep accurate incoming and outgoing shipment records.
  • Coordinate shipping methods and routes for timely, cost-effective service; communicate with colleagues at other locations to maintain consistent practices.
  • Provide safe, timely pickups and deliveries of samples, bottle orders, parcels, mail, and other materials to customers and internal departments.
  • Heat-treat samples in an oven, chemically treat wastewater for disposal, dispose of laboratory samples safely, and maintain the required treatment and disposal records.
  • Keep coolers and the bottle-preparation area clean, safe, and organized. Follow bottle preparation, sample disposal, driving, quality-control, and other applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Meet client quality and turnaround requirements, report workstation status and delays to your supervisor, and promptly raise safety concerns, discrepancies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support other assigned responsibilities within the team.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Valid full driver’s licence and a good driving record. A current driver’s abstract is required during the hiring process.
  • Excellent knowledge of the local area and ability to complete Bedford-area pickup and delivery assignments.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, and comparable workplace systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accurate handling of labels, orders, inventory, and records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and a professional approach to customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate with others, and escalate concerns promptly to meet client needs.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Availability for flexible working hours, shift work, and overtime.
  • Ability to perform duties involving lifting and carrying up to 40 lb and potentially prolonged standing, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.

Experience and knowledge that would be an asset

  • Experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Shipping and receiving experience.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements.

These are assets, not additional minimum credentials. Relevant experience may come from shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, delivery, inventory, sample handling, or other work that demonstrates accurate, safe material handling and dependable records.

Working environment

Expect a high-volume laboratory support environment with hands-on preparation, packing, material handling, and local driving. Priorities can change, and turnaround times matter. We handle hazardous materials using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment. This position supports sample logistics and preparation; it is not primarily an analytical testing role.
