Based in our Moncton, New Brunswick office and reporting to the VP, Operations, the AVP, Banking Operations is responsible for managing direct reports, planning, and organizing teams to maintain service levels within the department. This position works within the Operations management team to contribute to the development and implementation of the organization’s strategies, policies, and practices. This role may require working on shifts, after normal working hours, on weekends, and/or some public holidays.
About the Team
Butterfield’s Banking Operations team supports millions of financial transactions globally across all of our banking locations. Our customers include personal bank account holders, corporate, and wealth clients. Banking Operations is a fast-moving environment, where quality and accuracy are at the core of the team’s everyday activities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing day-to-day operations of the Operations teams, which includes but is not limited to: customer call back verification, wire payments and FX transactions, high value FX trades, standing instructions, local bank rejects, and EDI files. This also includes monitoring of dormant accounts, audit confirmations, and letters of credit reporting for corporate customers.
- Monitoring and enforcing applicable processes, procedures, and policies, ensuring adherence to agreed service level agreements (SLAs.)
- Managing the incident reporting process to ensure professional, prompt handling and resolution of issues.
- Controlling operational expenses and meeting budget targets.
- Maintaining effective communication with the VP, Operations, by reporting relevant details, providing updates about team concerns and successes, and escalating issues when necessary.
- Preparing monthly statistical reports of task/volumes completed within the Operations teams while ensuring departmental key performance indicators (KPIs) and SLAs are consistently met.
- Reviewing and updating procedure manuals and business continuity planning and organization charts whenever required to ensure resourcing and structure are effectively managed.
- Communicating and managing job expectations, goal setting, and objectives for direct reports, and evaluating staff work performance in order to provide feedback, direction, and guidance.
- Motivating and developing teams, while supporting and promoting strong cross-training initiatives. This also includes assessing staff to determine existing and future needs and providing and/or recommending training for employee development.
- Participating in the implementation of new technology; establishing, maintaining, and monitoring ongoing performance of effective procedures and processes to support high-quality services to external and internal customers.
- Managing team attendance and schedules to keep overtime costs within budget.
- Ensuring Operations teams maintain a minimum internal audit rating of “Satisfactory”.
- Acting as an escalation point for unresolved issues.
- Assisting with other ad hoc duties as requested by the supervisor, manager, or department head.
Your qualifications and skills include:
- At least ten years (10) years of broad banking experience, with at least five (5) years served in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong problem-solving, leadership, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Proven managerial skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, mentor, coach, and motivate teams.
- Prior experience effectively leading a team in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment.
- Good command of the English language, both written and oral.
- Proficient in office systems and computer software programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint with the ability to learn new systems with ease.
