About the Role
The IT Specialist is responsible for day-to-day end-user IT support and local technology operations for BYD Canada. The role is primarily hands-on, providing desktop support, device deployment, account and access support, office IT troubleshooting, and basic network and infrastructure coordination to ensure employees can work effectively and reliably. In addition, this role supports the rollout and ongoing operation of corporate business systems by coordinating between Canadian business users, BYD global/regional IT and application teams, and external vendors. The ideal candidate is service-oriented, technically hands-on, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-growing environment where priorities may change quickly.
Responsibilities
End-User Support & Desktop Operations
- Provide day-to-day IT support for employees, including laptops/desktops, monitors, printers, mobile devices, meeting-room equipment, peripherals, and common workplace technology.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, operating system, connectivity, printing, VPN, collaboration-tool, and user-access issues; escalate complex issues to regional/global IT or vendors when required.
- Set up and configure computers and user devices for new hires, transfers, and replacements, including software installation and standard corporate configurations.
- Support employee onboarding and offboarding from an IT perspective, including account/access coordination, device issuance and return, and equipment readiness.
- Maintain IT asset inventory, device assignments, warranty information, software/license records, and related documentation.
- Support meeting rooms, video conferencing, office moves, workstation changes, and other local office technology requirements.
- Track and resolve IT incidents and service requests in a timely manner and maintain clear user communication through resolution.
Local IT Infrastructure & Operations
- Support day-to-day operation of local office networks, Wi-Fi, internet connectivity, telecommunications, printers, and other IT infrastructure.
- Coordinate with corporate IT teams and service providers on network changes, equipment installation, maintenance, upgrades, and issue resolution.
- Assist with endpoint management, patching, antivirus/endpoint protection, identity and access controls, backups, and other corporate IT/security requirements.
- Coordinate IT vendors and service providers for onsite support, cabling, hardware, telecommunications, and related services when required.
- Maintain local IT procedures, equipment records, network/device documentation, and troubleshooting guides.
Business Systems & Integration Support
- Act as a local coordination point between Canadian business teams and BYD global/regional IT and application teams for system implementation, integration, enhancement, and support activities.
- Collect and clarify business requirements, document issues and workflows, and communicate requirements clearly to technical/application teams.
- Support testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), rollout, training, and post-go-live support for corporate systems and applications.
- Assist with user access, basic configuration, issue tracking, data validation, and troubleshooting for ERP (including SAP), CRM, HR, finance, sales, aftersales, logistics, and other business systems as applicable.
- Follow up on system issues and enhancement requests with internal teams and external vendors and keep local stakeholders informed of progress and resolution.
- Help identify opportunities to improve local processes through practical use of existing systems, automation, and technology tools.
IT Security & Compliance Support
- Follow and help implement BYD corporate IT policies, cybersecurity standards, access controls, and data-protection requirements locally.
- Support security-related activities such as endpoint protection, account/access reviews, security updates, phishing awareness, and remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
- Promptly escalate suspected security incidents, data risks, or business-critical technology issues according to corporate procedures.
Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on IT support, desktop support, help desk, systems support, or related experience in a business environment.
- Strong practical knowledge of Windows PCs, Microsoft 365, user accounts/access, printers, peripherals, meeting-room technology, and common enterprise applications.
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including LAN/Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, VPN, DNS/DHCP, and basic network troubleshooting.
- Experience with endpoint deployment/management, IT asset management, cybersecurity tools, or identity/access management is preferred.
- Experience supporting ERP (SAP), CRM, or other enterprise business systems, including implementation, UAT, integration coordination, or user support, is an asset.
- Experience working with global or regional IT teams and external vendors is preferred; experience in automotive, manufacturing, logistics, or another operational environment is an asset.
- Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English is required to support communication and coordination with BYD headquarters and local stakeholders.
- Flexibility to occasionally work outside regular business hours, including evenings, as needed to coordinate with BYD headquarters and global/regional IT teams across time zones.
- Strong customer-service mindset with the ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
- Strong troubleshooting, follow-up, documentation, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple requests, and take ownership of issues through resolution in a fast-growing environment.
