Position Overview

Passionate about the day-to-day operations of our Golf Course Turf Care Department, you take pride in developing and leading a large team responsible for overseeing all agronomic programs associated with our Audubon initiatives and values environmental protection and sustainability. You are energized by variety and enjoy leading and supervising project crews tasked with various golf course and resort enhancement projects. With a focus on servicing others and team building, you care a lot about the Turf Care Team, their performance, the safety of your people and our guests, and the impact you will make in amplifying the Cabot world class golf experience. You are an INSPIRING LEADER who provides clear and engaged leadership to all team members by actively connecting with a positive and team-oriented communication style regularly and openly with the intent of winning together. Under the guidance of the Golf Course Superintendent,you are energized by the opportunity todevelop team members as a component of all projects and assignments and inspire a best-in-class team who collaborates within, and across all of Cabot Cape Breton’s departments.

You always COMMUNICATE clearly with the intent to connect and to act in a professional manner with guests, associates, and suppliers. You have a strong relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, proactively reporting on the progress of you and your team every day. Your daily pre-shift briefings are clear, concise, and inspirational for your large team, and are supported with equally clear and concise written communication. You embrace the opportunity to represent the Turf Department on various committees and/or meetings.

You display an unparalleled WORK ETHIC, actioning precise instructions in a timely manner, enjoying the opportunity to demonstrate a wide scope of interest in turf care, equipment, and maintenance, and proactively seek additional and new responsibilities. You efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision.

Your LEARNING MINDSET, AGILITY and ability to think on your feet and model the willingness to adapt to new methods and standards. You enthusiastically identify and develop or enhance key proficiencies, working with the Golf Course Superintendent to develop and implement a strategic personal development plan.

Executional Excellence

Allocate resources and equipment for crews to ensure that all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate records for all nutrient management, IPM, irrigation and environmental programs.
Assist with the scouting, monitoring and diagnosis of turfgrass pathogens .
Create and maintain daily schedule of duties; record and track all daily assignments.
Implement accurate inventory management tracking with regards to department resources and assets.
Assist with the monitoring of daily water requirements, maintaining the irrigation system and pump station.
Oversee the proper care, use and maintenance of cultural and product application equipment including PPE, with the assistance of the Assistant Superintendent & Equipment Manager.
Assist in the execution of the turf department operating budget with timely submission of Purchase Orders, tracking deliveries & invoices, logging receipts, and reports.
Ensure a safe, clean, and productive work environment at all times.
Display responsible environmental protection practices.
Golf a minimum of twice per month to experience the golf course through the guests’ journey.

Qualifications And Experience

A diploma or degree in Turfgrass/ Golf Course Management or a related field.
Experience in Golf Course / Turfgrass Management.
A strong understanding of agronomic practices and how they relate to the game of golf.
The ability to obtain First Aid Training within the first 90 days of employment.
The ability to obtain a Nova Scotia pesticide applicator license within 90 days of employment.
Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Information System (WHIMIS) .
The ability to collect and analysis data and input into a report.

Physical Demands

Work outdoors and op erate vehicles and equipment for several hours in varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, snow and wind.
Ability to spend long hours moving around, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, shoveling and/or raking.
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects.
Ability to work with and around motorized equipment movement hazards, and misdirected golf balls .
Ability to work with and around pesticides, fertilizers, and registered products and safely follow product labels.
