Original job description
At Cactus Club Cafe, we love what we do, and we love the people we do it with. As one of the most innovative restaurant concepts in Canada, we are continuously celebrated as one of the country’s best places to work. We firmly believe in creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome, supported and valued. Today, these restaurants are a national brand, and are experiencing the fastest growth in its history.
Continuously innovating and implementing new technology, our IT Team maintains and supports all technologies including audio visual, hospitality and head office based systems while partnering with Operations to rollout, implement and update programs to ensure efficiencies.
YOU ARE:
- An Experienced Analytics Engineer: You have 5+ years in data or analytics engineering, with deep hands-on experience in cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks).
- A Technical Leader: You set best practices, review code, mentor developers and write documentation people can follow.
- Strong in SQL, Modelling & Data Transformation: You're highly proficient in SQL, dimensional modelling, and data transformation tools (e.g., dbt). You have proven experience building governed semantic or metrics layers that business users and AI tools can rely on.
- Comfortable in the Cloud: You've built data pipelines across major cloud platforms and used serverless tools to support automated data workflows.
- Experienced with Modern BI & AI Tools: You know how to prepare data for cloud-native BI platforms (e.g., Sigma Computing) and emerging LLM/AI workflows (e.g., Claude, OpenAI APIs).
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Building the Semantic Layer: Creating a governed semantic layer in our data warehouse (Snowflake) using transformation tools like dbt to standardize key business metrics for BI applications and natural language AI assistants.
- Building Pipelines and Models: Designing and maintaining ELT pipelines and data models that bring in data from our core operational systems (POS, labour/scheduling, inventory, reservations, finance).
- Supporting On-Demand Refreshes: Building serverless automation (e.g., AWS Lambda) so teams can refresh data on demand.
- Tuning Performance: Managing views, dynamic tables and warehouse sizing to keep data close to real time.
- Supporting Our Visualization Developers: Making sure our data models give them what they need for their reports and dashboards.
- Shaping Our Data Architecture: Working with the BI Director on architecture, platform design, data science infrastructure, and our AI-readiness roadmap.
- Mentoring the Team: Reviewing code and coaching developers as the team grows.
WE WILL:
- Give you the ultimate Cactus discount - 50% off food + drinks, hungry yet?
- Focus on your training and development, we’re believers in lifelong learning
- Foster a fun culture that makes coming to work genuinely enjoyable
- Provide compensation between $170,000 - $195,000. The compensation package for this role takes various factors into consideration including market rates, experience, and qualifications
- Offer a competitive benefits package and wellness spending account
