CAD Railway Industries is a Quebec-based company that has been operating for over 60 years, specializing in the repair, conversion, and refurbishment of rolling railway equipment (freight cars and locomotives of all kinds). Job Description:

The Industrial Engineer at CAD Railway Industries is responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing manufacturing line layouts, tooling strategies, and parts storage systems to improve efficiency, safety, quality, and cost performance. This role works closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to support production readiness and continuous improvement initiatives.

Main Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Line Layout and Flow

Design and optimize manufacturing line layouts to support efficient material flow, ergonomics, takt time compliance, and production capacity
Develop line balancing plans based on demand, labor standards, and equipment capacity
Evaluate and improve workstation layouts to reduce waste, unnecessary motion, and cycle time
Support new product introduction (NPI) by defining scalable and flexible line layouts

Tooling and Equipment Planning

Define tooling requirements for each process step, including fixtures, jigs, gauges, and specialized equipment
Collaborate with production and design engineers to ensure tooling supports quality, safety, and productivity objectives
Participate in equipment selection, integration into line layouts, and commissioning
Develop standard work instructions related to tooling use and installation

Parts Storage and Material Handling

Design point-of-use parts storage systems, including racks, bins, kitting systems, and parts supermarkets
Optimize material handling methods to reduce travel distances, handling time, and inventory levels
Collaborate with supply chain and logistics teams to define replenishment strategies (kanban, FIFO, line-side delivery)
Ensure parts storage solutions support quality, traceability, and ergonomics

Process Analysis and Continuous Improvement

Conduct time studies, motion analysis, and capacity analysis
Apply Lean Manufacturing and industrial engineering principles (5S, kaizen, value stream mapping)
Identify and implement opportunities to reduce costs and improve productivity and quality
Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPI) related to efficiency, utilization, and production throughput

Documentation and Standards

Create and maintain layout drawings, process flows, work standards, and capacity models
Develop manufacturing standards for line layouts, tooling, and storage systems
Support audits and ensure compliance with safety and ergonomic standards

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field

Experience

1 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is considered an asset

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, material flow, and line balancing

Description du poste :

L’ingénieur industriel chez CAD Industries ferroviaires est responsable de la conception, de l’analyse et de l’optimisation des configurations de lignes de fabrication, des stratégies d’outillage et des systèmes d’entreposage des pièces afin d’améliorer l’efficacité, la sécurité, la qualité et la performance des coûts. Ce rôle travaille en étroite collaboration avec les équipes de production, d’ingénierie, de qualité et de chaîne d’approvisionnement afin de soutenir la préparation à la production et les initiatives d’amélioration continue.

Principales responsabilités :

Configuration et flux des lignes de fabrication

Concevoir et optimiser les configurations des lignes de fabrication afin de favoriser un flux de matériaux efficace, l’ergonomie, le respect du takt time et la capacité de production
Développer des plans d’équilibrage des lignes en fonction de la demande, des standards de main-d’œuvre et de la capacité des équipements
Évaluer et améliorer l’aménagement des postes de travail afin de réduire les gaspillages, les mouvements inutiles et le temps de cycle
Soutenir l’introduction de nouveaux produits (NPI) en définissant des configurations de lignes évolutives et flexibles

Planification de l’outillage et des équipements

Définir les besoins en outillage pour chaque étape du processus, incluant les gabarits, montages, jauges et équipements spécialisés
Collaborer avec les ingénieurs de production et de conception afin de s’assurer que l’outillage soutient les objectifs de qualité, de sécurité et de productivité
Participer à la sélection des équipements, à leur intégration dans les configurations et à leur mise en service
Développer des instructions de travail standard liées à l’utilisation et à l’installation de l’outillage

Entreposage des pièces et manutention des matériaux

Concevoir des systèmes d’entreposage des pièces au point d’utilisation, incluant les racks, bacs, systèmes de préparation de kits et supermarchés de pièces
Optimiser les méthodes de manutention des matériaux afin de réduire les distances de déplacement, le temps de manipulation et les niveaux d’inventaire
Collaborer avec les équipes de chaîne d’approvisionnement et de logistique pour définir les stratégies de réapprovisionnement (kanban, FIFO, livraison en bord de ligne)
S’assurer que les solutions d’entreposage des pièces soutiennent la qualité, la traçabilité et l’ergonomie

Analyse des processus et amélioration continue

Réaliser des études de temps, d’analyse des mouvements et des analyses de capacité
Appliquer les principes du Lean Manufacturing et de l’ingénierie industrielle (5S, kaizen, cartographie de la chaîne de valeur)
Identifier et mettre en œuvre des opportunités de réduction des coûts, d’amélioration de la productivité et de la qualité
Développer et suivre des indicateurs de performance clés (KPI) liés à l’efficacité, à l’utilisation et au débit de production

Documentation et standards

Créer et maintenir les plans d’aménagement, les flux de processus, les standards de travail et les modèles de capacité
Développer des standards de fabrication pour les configurations de lignes, l’outillage et les systèmes d’entreposage

Qualifications

Formation

Baccalauréat en génie industriel, génie de la fabrication ou dans un domaine connexe

Expérience
