Original job description
About us:
Calder is solving the data bottleneck for embodied AI and world models. Today's AI models lack the real-world, 4D data needed to reason on spatial problems and operate in physical environments. We capture, process, and deliver high-fidelity human-generated spatial data at scale, providing the substrate that trains the next generation of generalizable models for manipulation, navigation, and interaction.
About the role:
Our business is complex and operationally intensive: we have a global network of operators and partners that perform data collection, a fleet of robots and collection rigs, a sophisticated pipeline for data processing, and a rapidly growing set of unique customer commitments.
As our first Finance / Business Engineer, you will build the infrastructure to provide us with a live view of our economics, data supply, and customer demand. This infrastructure will be the foundation for some of our most important strategic decisions.
This is a novel role, but one that we believe will become increasingly important within AI-native organizations. We are starting with a clean slate and you will have a unique opportunity to define these systems from scratch.
Build the finance data layer. Build pipelines and agents that consolidate data from disparate sources and compile a live source of truth for our financials.
Build the supply data layer. Build the infrastructure for data supply planning; own view on vendor and hardware efficiency, and our true economic cost.
Build the demand data layer. Build the system needed to track and visualize an increasingly complex set of customer commitments, and forecast demand across data modalities.
Be the expert. You will be the source of truth for key metrics in our business and act as a voice in some of our most important strategic decisions.
About you:
Quantitative. Strong quantitative thinker, with attention to detail.
Curious and quick to learn. Pick up new concepts and domains quickly and are interested in applying your engineering skillset to the domains of strategic finance and operations.
Systems thinker. Ability to think at a high level about problems and architect scalable solutions.
High-agency. Ability to work on problems with limited oversight, and know when to engage the right stakeholders.
Collaborative. This role is cross-functional; you will need to partner closely with team members across Operations, Engineering, Finance, and GTM.
4+ years in software or applied AI engineering.
Experience using LLMs and agents to build software and automate real workflows.
Working fluency or a strong interest in finance: you can read a P&L and reason about unit economics (deep accounting experience isn't required).
Bonus: exposure to investment banking, private equity, management consulting or accounting.
Calder is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status. Learn more here.
By applying for this position, you consent to the collection, storage, and processing of your personal data by Calder for recruitment purposes. We will handle your information securely and in accordance with local privacy policies. Your data may be shared with authorized third-party service providers aiding in the hiring process.
