Position function: Reporting to the Senior R&D Scientist – Damin-Aide., the individual will be responsible for formulation and development of new products, along with supporting the team at a technical level for Caldic’s internal and external customers within a specific business unit
Scope: The position will be responsible for completing the R&D process of formulation and development of new products from the concept stage to prototype and full-scale production as well as ingredient matches and modifications for existing products for customers within the Specific sector. This role will be an integral team member in the Product Management Unit and will provide technology support to other areas of the Caldic business as required.
Major tasks and duties:
- Assisting R&D Scientist with R&D projects as defined by the Senior Product Manager.
- Responsible for supporting the successful commercialization of new products
- Provide assistance with preliminary product documentation including Specifications
- Provide technical support and problem solve with Scientists for issues relating to product quality
- Work closely with production, marketing, QA/QC in monitoring the performance of new products during post-launch activities in the New Product Process; may include troubleshooting, ingredient recommendations, testing.
- Collaborate with Business Team to develop, coordinate, prepare and present relevant concepts to customers featuring Caldic manufactured or distributed products
- Participate in and/or lead product improvement initiatives to improve the quality of existing products in response to customer feedback, to improve nutritional value, color, flavor, texture and convenience, or to improve cost efficiencies in the plant.
- Participate in marketing activities such as focus groups, new idea generation, researching market trends as they pertain to strategic business plan and new products
- Prepare customer samples as required and HPLC testing as necessary.
- Support Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) for record keeping, lab supplies (chemical and reagents), etc.
- Maintain lab, sample room, & working areas in a manner that is clean, organized, and stocked with supplies
- Remain current with the market on training and new ingredients that are relevant to our business
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, GMP’s and HACCP requirements
- General R&D support, New Supplier Evaluations, Product Evaluations, technical Brand Support.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures
- Complete all other duties as assigned by SR. R&D Scientist
Knowledge/Skills & Experience:
- University degree in B.Sc. – Food Science or equivalent is a strong asset
- 2 - 3years of product development experience in related field
- Must have strong oral/written communication and good interpersonal skills
- Must have strong presentation skills
- Must have strong computer knowledge and skills (MS Office)
- Working experience with Food Quality and Safety Programs and GMPs is considered an asset
- Knowledge of GFSI standards is considered an asset
- Experience with HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) / GC (Gas Chromatography) considered an asset
- Must be willing to work hands on with operation employees to ensure compliance and comprehension of food safety policies and programs
- Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Must be able manage multiple priorities and deliver results within expected timeliness
- Strong attention to detail
- Must be self-motivated to work with minimal supervision
