WHY CALGARY AIRPORTS

Powered by heart and dedicated to excellence, we’re the team that keeps Calgary connected – and you could be our newest member.

We’re in the business of uplifting people, and every day, we create runways to new places and possibilities, building a better airport experience for everyone.

WHAT’S THE TEAM LIKE

The facility maintenance team ensures the smooth operation of all spaces at a busy 24/7 airport, keeping terminals, offices, and other buildings safe, functional, and well-maintained. They handle repairs, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems to support airport operations and passenger comfort. This team ensures safe, efficient, and reliable operations, supporting 24/7 airport activities and driving smart building initiatives.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design, review, and optimization of medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, motor control centres, grounding systems, and backup power systems.
  • Lead and validate power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonics, grounding, voltage-drop, and contingency analysis, and translate findings into corrective actions.
  • Approve complex engineering designs, calculations, specifications, single-line diagrams, protection philosophies, relay settings, control logic, and SCADA integration criteria.
  • Investigate major power system failures and recurring electrical issues, determine root causes, and define repair, replacement, operating, and reliability improvements.
  • Act as the electrical engineering subject matter expert for capital and infrastructure projects by defining technical requirements, reviewing consultant and contractor deliverables, witnessing testing, and authorizing technical acceptance.
  • Interpret and apply electrical codes, engineering standards, utility requirements, and safety regulations, and lead hazard, switching, isolation, and energized-work reviews.
  • Advise leaders on capacity, reliability, outage exposure, infrastructure constraints, lifecycle priorities, and capital investment options using clear, risk-based recommendations.
  • Develop engineering standards and evaluate technologies that improve redundancy, fault isolation, automation, power quality, system visibility, and long-term resiliency.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING

  • You’ll need to be eligible to obtain and maintain a RAIC, don’t worry – we’ll help you through this! For more details, check out: RAIC Program and Application Information
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required; specialization in power systems engineering is preferred. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is required.
  • 8-10 years of progressive experience in electrical power systems design, analysis, operation, and maintenance within complex operational environments is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, substations, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, and protection relays.
  • Expertise in power system modelling, load flow, fault analysis, protection coordination, grounding, harmonics, arc flash mitigation, and contingency assessment.
  • Proficiency with ETAP, EasyPower, or comparable power system analysis software, with the ability to model network conditions and interpret study outputs.
  • Knowledge of CSA Z462, occupational health and safety requirements, applicable electrical codes, utility standards, electrical testing, commissioning, and asset lifecycle management.
  • As this position is considered safety-sensitive, candidates must successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing as part of the hiring process.

WHAT ADDITIONAL SKILLS ARE AN ASSET

  • Additional training or certifications in power system analysis, protection and control, arc flash, SCADA, or asset management are considered assets.
  • Experience within regulated, industrial, utility, transportation, airport, municipal, or other critical infrastructure environments is considered an asset.
  • Bilingual in English and French
