We’re in the business of uplifting people, and every day, we create runways to new places and possibilities, building a better airport experience for everyone.

WHAT’S THE TEAM LIKE

The Safety, Security, Compliance, and Emergency Response team ensures the safe and secure operation of Calgary International and Springbank Airports. This team plays a critical role in regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and operational assurance, directly impacting the airports’ efficiency and safety. Their work supports the strategic goals of the organization and ensures a safe environment for all stakeholders.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct written and practical competency assessments for new Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (AVOP) applicants, renewing permit holders, endorsements, return-to-work assessments, and other airside operating privileges.
  • Verify applicant documentation and evaluate airside driving knowledge, vehicle control, radio procedures, situational awareness, and compliance with established safety requirements.
  • Approve, defer, or decline permit qualification; provide assessment feedback; and identify required practice, training, documentation, corrective action, or reassessment.
  • Maintain complete applicant, test, permit, employer, signing-authority, company-tester, billing, and program records across approved systems.
  • Review and revise AVOP manuals, testing materials, forms, templates, guides, and work instructions to reflect Airside Traffic Directives, airport procedures, and applicable aviation requirements.
  • Monitor compliance, investigate recurring assessment or documentation concerns, communicate corrective actions, and escalate significant or repeated matters.
  • Prepare billing information, dashboards, and monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reports; analyze results and trends to identify AVOP program improvements.
  • Respond to applicants, permit holders, employers, contractors, signing authorities, company testers, and internal departments regarding testing, permits, documentation, billing, and compliance requirements.

  • You’ll need to be eligible to obtain and maintain a RAIC, don’t worry – we’ll help you through this! For more details, check out: RAIC Program and Application Information
  • Post-secondary diploma in aviation, safety, business administration, or a related field of study is required. Extensive, relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
