What does this role look like?
Purpose
- The purpose of this job is to transform complex data into meaningful information, insights, and recommendations that support operational and strategic decision-making. The Data Analytics & Automation Advisor applies advanced analytical techniques, statistical methodologies, forecasting tools, and business intelligence practices to support organizational planning, performance measurement, workforce analytics, accountability reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- This role serves as a professional organizational resource for data analysis, reporting, visualization, and automation. The incumbent works collaboratively with stakeholders across the organization including unions to develop data-driven solutions, improve data quality, and ensure the effective use of organizational information assets.
Accountability
This job is accountable for:
- Working with structured and unstructured data throughout the data lifecycle, including collection, cleaning, analysis, and interpretation.
- Providing analytical expertise and consultation to support evidence-informed decision-making.
- Developing and maintaining reporting, forecasting, dashboard, and business intelligence solutions.
- Ensuring the integrity, quality, and effective use of organizational data.
- Leading complex analytical projects and supporting cross-functional initiatives.
- Identifying opportunities for process improvement, automation, and enhanced reporting capabilities.
- Interpreting and communicating complex findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Supporting compliance, accountability, operational, and strategic reporting requirement.
- Research, analyze, and synthesize data, trends, and insights to support reports, recommendations, planning, labor relations matters, and system-wide organizational initiatives.
- Applying advanced PeopleSoft HRMS functional and technical expertise to support HR, Payroll, Benefits, TAM/CG and Workforce Administration reporting and analytics.
- Ensuring PeopleSoft HRMS data structures, table relationships, and business rules are accurately reflected in reporting, forecasting, and automation solutions.

Major responsibilities
Apply advanced statistical, analytical and business intelligence methodologies to identify trends, patterns, risks, opportunities and data-driven recommendations.
Data Analysis and Insights
- Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, relationships, risks, and opportunities.
- Conduct advanced statistical analyses, forecasting, trend analysis, and predictive analytics to support organizational planning and decision-making.
- Develop evidence-based recommendations through quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Research, compile, analyze, and interpret information for strategic initiatives, business planning, operational reviews, and special projects.
- Support workforce planning, resource allocation, program evaluation, and performance measurement activities.
- Analyze PeopleSoft HRMS core tables (JOB, POSITION, PER_ORG, PAY_CHECK, PAY_EARNINGS, DEPT_TBL, POSITION_DATA, BENEFIT tables, TL tables etc.) to support workforce analytics and HR decision-making.
- Use PeopleSoft Query, PS/SQL, and connected reporting tools to extract, validate, and interpret HRMS data for operational and strategic initiatives.
- Perform root-cause analysis on HRMS data discrepancies, retroactive changes, and table updates impacting reporting accuracy.
Reporting and Business Intelligence
- Design, develop, and maintain complex reports, dashboards, scorecards, and automations.
- Translate stakeholder requirements into meaningful reporting solutions.
- Produce recurring and ad hoc reports to support operational, compliance, and strategic needs.
- Present findings and recommendations using reports, presentations, visualizations, and data storytelling techniques.
- Develop performance indicators and measurement frameworks that support organizational objectives.
- Develop and maintain PeopleSoft HRMS-based dashboards, PS queries, and reporting packages supporting HR, Payroll, Benefits, and Workforce Planning functions.
- Integrate PeopleSoft HRMS data with BI tools (Power BI, Selenium, R or equivalent) using SQL pipelines, API connectors, and automated refresh processes.
- Design audit and compliance reports using PeopleSoft HRMS data to support HR operations, labor relations, and regulatory reporting.
Data Management and Governance
- Promote data quality, consistency, integrity, and standardization across reporting systems.
- Perform data validation, auditing, cleansing, reconciliation, and quality assurance activities.
- Document data definitions, methodologies, reporting processes, and business rules.
- Support organizational data governance practices and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with data owners and stakeholders to improve data management practices and reporting effectiveness.
- Ensure PeopleSoft HRMS data integrity through validation, auditing, reconciliation, and monitoring of key HR tables and system processes.
- Document PeopleSoft HRMS data definitions, table relationships, reporting logic, and business rules to support consistent organizational data governance.
- Collaborate with HRMS functional teams to improve data quality, reduce manual corrections, and enhance system-wide reporting reliability.
Automation and Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve business processes through automation and enhanced reporting solutions.
- Develop and maintain automated reporting, validation, audit, and reconciliation processes.
- Utilize reporting and analytical tools, statistical software, databases, and scripting technologies to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Participate in system implementations, upgrades, enhancements, and testing activities that impact reporting and automations.
- Develop automated workflows and scripts to streamline PeopleSoft HRMS reporting, data loads, audits, and reconciliation processes.
- Support PeopleSoft HRMS upgrades, patches, and enhancements by validating reporting impacts, participating in testing, and optimizing downstream analytics.
- Create automated exception reports to identify HRMS data anomalies, retro changes, and workflow bottlenecks.
Partnership and Consultation
- Act as a trusted advisor to leaders and stakeholders on analytics, reporting, data interpretation, and performance measurement.
- Collaborate with business units to understand operational requirements and translate them into analytical solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and support on data, reporting methodologies, and analytical approaches.
- Facilitate effective knowledge sharing and promote data literacy among stakeholders.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional teams, committees, and projects as required.
- Mentor and provide guidance to analysts and other users of organizational data.
- Support the development of analytical standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and evidence-based decision-making
- Provide subject-matter expertise to HR, Payroll, Benefits, and IT teams on PeopleSoft HRMS data usage, reporting methodologies, and system capabilities.
- Advise stakeholders on PeopleSoft HRMS functional processes and their implications for analytics, forecasting, and performance measurement.
- Mentor analysts and HRMS users on PeopleSoft Query development, table navigation, and reporting best practices.
Investigate, research, and compile information, statistics, trends, and forecasts for the preparation of briefs, reports, proposals, and scenario analyses related to program development, operational planning, policy initiatives, collective bargaining, grievance resolution, arbitration proceedings, and other organizational priorities.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support organizational goals and objectives.
What are we looking for?
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- The completion of a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in statistics, mathematics, data analytics, or related discipline.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis, business intelligence, reporting, analytics, Senior Peoplesoft Tech & Reporting Analyst or a related field.
- Experience working with large and complex datasets.
- Experience developing dashboards, reports, forecast models and automated reporting solutions.
- Experience with People Soft.
- Experience using analytical and reporting tools such as SQL, R, Python, Power BI, Tableau or equivalent technologies.
- Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of program evaluation, quantitative and qualitative measures, statistical analysis, and survey design.
- Other equivalent combinations of directly related post-secondary education and directly related experience may be considered.
- Extensive experience working with PeopleSoft HRMS modules and performing complex data analysis using HRMS data structures.
- Hands-on experience developing PeopleSoft Queries, PS/SQL scripts, R scripts and HRMS-based reporting solutions.
- Experience supporting PeopleSoft HRMS upgrades, retrofits, data conversions, and integration with external reporting systems.
