The Opportunity

Position Title: Payroll & Benefits Coordinator
Reports To: Manager, Total Rewards & Payroll
Employment Type: Full-time
Schedule: 40 hours per rotation with 5 days on and 2 days off.
Location: 1 Dermot Baldwin Way SE, Calgary, Alberta

What You’ll Do

Every role at the DI makes a difference. In this position, you will:

Coordinate end-to-end semi-monthly payroll processing in Dayforce, championing data accuracy, process integrity, and a positive employee payroll experience.
Oversee employee payroll transactions from hire to departure, ensuring accurate and timely updates for transfers, compensation changes, leaves, and terminations.
Orchestrate payroll quality assurance by validating payroll transactions, proactively addressing variances, and supporting reconciliations, audits, and balancing activities to deliver accurate and compliant payroll.
Drive payroll compliance and year-end reporting excellence by preparing Records of Employment (ROEs) and payroll documentation, while coordinating T4 preparation, reconciliations, and regulatory reporting requirements with accuracy and efficiency.
Champion employee benefits and RSP plan administration by managing enrollments, updates, beneficiary changes, and terminations, maintaining precise records, and coordinating seamless transactions with external vendors to deliver an exceptional employee experience.
Serve as a trusted payroll and benefits advisor, delivering responsive support to employees and leaders, driving timely issue resolution, and expertly navigating complex payroll, benefits, leave, disability, and policy matters.

What we need from you

Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation required.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in payroll administration, benefits administration, and employee data management within a mid-sized or complex organizational environment.
Demonstrated experience processing payroll transactions, including employee hires, transfers, compensation changes, leave transactions, terminations, earnings, deductions, and retroactive adjustments.
Experience administering group benefits and retirement savings programs, including enrollments, changes, terminations, reconciliations, and vendor submissions.
Experience preparing payroll-related documentation, including Records of Employment (ROEs), year-end payroll activities, payroll reporting, and supporting audit requirements.
Experience performing payroll balancing, reconciliation, data validation, quality assurance reviews, and discrepancy resolution.
Working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, Employment Standards, statutory remittances, taxable benefits, and payroll compliance requirements.
Knowledge of HRIS and payroll systems, employee data management, and data integrity practices.
General awareness of leave administration and disability processes with the ability to appropriately refer complex matters.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, maintain records, and manage multiple competing deadlines.
Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate transactional issues, and escalate complex matters through appropriate channels.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to respond professionally and effectively to routine employee and leader inquiries.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, and reporting tools.
Ability to work independently on routine activities while collaborating effectively with Payroll, People & Culture, Finance, leaders, and external vendors.
Ability to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
A genuine commitment to the mission, vision, values, and work of the agency.

Dayforce experience is considered a strong asset.
Experience working in a multi-site, healthcare, social services, or 24/7 operational environment is considered an asset.
