Position Overview
Calian is seeking experienced Weapons Technician Instructors to support the training and development of military personnel at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden. This is a full-time, on-site contract opportunity where you will deliver practical and theoretical instruction related to small arms, armament systems, maintenance procedures, and weapons repair.
As a subject matter expert, you will play a key role in preparing the next generation of Weapons Technicians through classroom instruction, workshop supervision, student mentorship, assessment activities, and course development support.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver practical and theoretical instruction on small arms and armament repair procedures.
- Instruct students on approved and safe maintenance, inspection, and repair practices.
- Demonstrate inspection and repair procedures for in-service small arms and armament weapon systems.
- Utilize advanced tooling, including Bore Gauges BG-10 and BG-20, and other weapon-specific gauges.
- Provide instruction on Weapons DP3 or USQ qualifications, including platforms such as Leopard Family of Vehicles (Leo FoV), M777, and LG1 systems, as required.
- Deliver classroom and workshop instruction to groups of up to 30 students.
- Provide instruction independently or in conjunction with other instructors.
- Develop training aids using provided boards, equipment, and multimedia resources.
- Monitor workshop activities and immediately correct unsafe practices.
- Identify and report academic or disciplinary concerns to the Section Head.
- Secure and store training aids in designated areas at the end of each training day.
- Apply DP1 and DP2 instructional policies, including tool control, classroom management, material accountability, harassment prevention, and professional conduct standards.
- Utilize the Defence Learning Network (DLN) to monitor student progress.
- Adapt to changing schedules, program updates, and evolving training requirements.
- Comply with all school policies and the Conduct of Training Manual (CTM).
- Maintain classrooms, laboratories, and training facilities in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
- Control, mark, and analyze Enabling Checks (ECs) and Performance Checks (PCs).
- Advise Course Directors regarding deficient or unserviceable training aids and facilities.
- Prepare and provide lesson plans, evaluations, assessments, and course documentation.
- Record student performance in Student Record Books (SRBs).
- Assist with counselling students regarding academic and performance concerns.
- Invigilate examinations.
- Participate in course design and development activities.
- Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support as required.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess one of the following:
Option 1
- Regular Force QL6 Weapons Technician (DP3/RQ Sergeant) Certificate
OR
Option 2
- Regular Force QL5 (DP2) Weapons Technician Certificate
- Junior Leaders Course (JLC) or Primary Leadership Qualification (PLQ)
- Ability to successfully complete the first available DP3 Weapons Technician Course at the Department of National Defence's expense upon appointment to the position
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 12 years of experience as a Weapons Technician.
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching adults within the last ten (10) years.
Additional Requirements
- Must be available to work on-site at CFB Borden, Ontario.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Secret Security Clearance.
Compensation
$38.00 to $45.29 per hour
