Original job description

Position: General Production (Days)

Number of openings: 4

Location: Spruce Grove, AB (onsite)

Shift: Days: 6:00AM - 4:30PM

Employment Type: Fulltime Permanent

Please note: Fridays may include overtime based on production needs. We're looking for flexible, reliable team members ready to grow with us. Not sure yet? Let's talk - we'll walk through your options.

About Cam Tran: For more than 35 years, Cam Tran has been Canada's largest full-line, Canadian-owned manufacturer of oil-filled distribution transformers. From coast to coast, our products help utilities deliver safe and reliable power to homes, businesses, and industries. As a company, we combine strong values with innovation, investing in our people and our technology so we can continue shaping the future of electrical distribution together.

About the Role: This is more than a production job - it's a chance to be part of something essential. Our General Production Operators work across multiple departments, learning to prep materials, operate machines, and assemble components that build high-quality transformer products. It's hands-on, physical work where no two days feel the same, and you'll see how your part fits into the bigger picture - helping power entire communities.

We're looking for team players who value safety, consistency, and learning new things. If you're always raising your hand to help or improve something, you'll thrive here.

Key Responsibilities

Follow job-specific work instructions to complete hands-on production tasks safely and accurately
Set up materials/equipment and maintain a clean, organized work area
Perform quality checks at every step and speak up if something doesn't look right
Keep production moving by reviewing schedules and communicating material needs
Work efficiently to meet or exceed daily time standards - our team thrives on hitting goals together
Support your teammates - jump in and help when you can
Follow Cam Tran's ISO procedures and safety protocols consistently
Actively participate in team huddles and offer feedback and ideas
Take care of your tools and equipment - do pre-use safety checks and report issues
Other duties assigned by the Value Stream Supervisor

Requirements

These are the kinds of qualities that tend to thrive in this role - and at Cam Tran in general:

High school diploma or equivalent, with relevant manufacturing experience preferred
You're reliable, hands-on, and not afraid to get a little dirty
You enjoy working in a team and communicating with others
You're curious, love learning, and eager to be cross-trained in different areas
You care about safety, live it, and know how to spot potential hazards
You've got a natural mechanical mindset & enjoy figuring out how things work & troubleshooting when something's off
You pay attention to the little things and take pride in getting it right the first time
You follow instructions well and don't mind sticking to a process
You can solve small problems on the fly and stay calm when things get busy
You're not shy about asking questions or offering ideas to improve the team
You show up on time, pitch in wherever needed, and have your teammates' backs
You're comfortable with physical tasks and enjoy using your hands to build things

Qualifications:

High Attention to Detail - verify accuracy of relevant information located on the sticker on the coil. You need to make sure the dimensions are as exact, with the tolerance only being +/3/8" or the coil will be no good
Evaluating Information to Determine with Standards - Using relevant information and individual judgement to determine pack out of the coil with Masonite to meet the specifications
Inspecting Equipment or Material: Inspecting equipment and the quality of the coil press
Manual Dexterity - Paying close attention to when you are inserting a wedge that you are cautious to avoid injury to hands
High Level of Accuracy - Record bake cycle times and verify the specifications as per the sticker
Lifting and Pushing - Coils, metal plates and wedges

Working Conditions:

Working indoors
Repetitive tasks
High pace, pressure to perform to expectations
Potential overtime hours

Physical Requirements:

Ability to remain standing in a stationary position for extended periods
Capable of lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds
Able to perform moderate physical activities, including frequent handling and movement of materials, use of hands and arms, and operation and positioning of equipment
