Original job description

Founded in 2004, Cameron Stephens is a leading Canadian real estate investment firm with just under $3.6 billion in assets under administration (AUA). Cameron Stephens offers institutional and private investors strategic opportunities to invest in commercial real estate with consistent returns. The firm specializes in mortgage solutions through Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital (CSMC) for developers across Canada. Established in 2021, Cameron Stephens Equity Capital (CSEC) provides equity opportunities for high-quality and strategically positioned developments.

Leveraging deep market expertise and strong industry partnerships, Cameron Stephens is recognized as a key player in Canada’s real estate investment landscape, delivering sustainable growth and financial success.

We manage capital on behalf of various partners, including banks, insurance companies, pension funds, family offices, credit unions, and individual investors.

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer with a strong foundation in software development and hands-on experience building with Generative and Agentic AI. This new role is the first engineering hire on our AI and Tech team, reporting to the Director, AI and Tech Transformation. It suits someone who wants breadth: modern application development, AI-driven automation and close work with data. You will design, build and run software that our business teams rely on, in a regulated environment where security and auditability matter.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build and maintain internal business applications and platforms, from requirements through production.
Apply AI-assisted approaches throughout the application development lifecycle while maintaining engineering quality standards.
Contribute to the evolution of software delivery processes from traditional SDLC approaches toward AI-driven Application Development Lifecycle (ADLC) models.
Implement AI agents and automation capabilities that support:

o Planning

o Development

o Testing

o Review

o Integration

o Deployment

o Operational support

Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and repetitive engineering tasks through AI-driven automation.
Develop data solutions, reporting and system integrations that connect core business platforms.
Support production applications and assist with troubleshooting complex technical issues.
Use AI-assisted techniques to accelerate root cause analysis and incident resolution.
Build security, auditability and data protection into solutions from the start.

Are you aligned with our Mission, Vision and Values?

Our Mission is to advance our client-first philosophy by managing investor capital with the highest levels of professionalism and integrity. We are dedicated to capital preservation while simultaneously forging long-term relationships with our real estate developer partners. We are committed to excellence in everything we do and building trust with all our stakeholders.

Our Vision is to be a leading force in the Commercial Real Estate industry, in the markets we serve across North America, known for disrupting the status quo and setting new standards of service and excellence. We aspire to make a significant impact on everyone we engage with - clients, investors, employees, and the communities we support - by consistently delivering unparalleled value and fostering meaningful change.

Our Values:

· Authenticity: We are genuine, transparent, and honest. We build trust through open communication and consistent actions.

· Urgency: We move with purpose and pace. We respond quickly and act decisively, knowing that speed matters in our business.

· Intellectual Curiosity: We ask questions, challenge assumptions, and never stop learning. We seek out better ways to solve problems.

· Loyalty: We are committed to our clients, our colleagues, and our company. We support one another and stick with our commitments.

· Entrepreneurial Mindset: We take initiative, embrace accountability, and push beyond the expected. We think and act like owners.

· Respectfully Confident: We know our strengths, lead through actions, and stay grounded. We let results speak for themselves.

What we believe our ideal candidate will possess:

· 3+ years of experience as a software engineer, with production systems you have built and supported

· Strong Python skills and experience with modern web frameworks.

· Solid SQL and relational database experience.

· Hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs), AI coding agents and agent frameworks.

· A disciplined approach to AI-assisted development: careful code review, thorough test generated

output.

· Clear communication, and the ability to work independently and with business stakeholders.

· Experience with workflow orchestration tools.

· Experience deploying and operating services on Azure.

· Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.

· Familiarity with modern data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric.

· Experience in financial services, lending or another regulated industry.
