An exciting opportunity to join CAMH's dynamic Bridging Service team. The Bridging Service provides low-barrier, rapid access to care for clients following an acute episode of care. We are currently seeking a full-time, temporary Registered Nurse (until February 26, 2027).
As a member of an inter-professional team, you will provide client-centred mental health, addiction, and nursing care to individuals from diverse backgrounds experiencing acute mental health and substance use concerns. You will provide comprehensive assessment, crisis intervention, brief supportive treatment, care coordination, and psychoeducation while supporting clients through periods of acute need and transition. You will ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care and practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario professional standards, the Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, CAMH policies and procedures, and the CAMH Practice Model of Care.
This position is based at 1051 Queen Street West and involves 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
You will perform mental health, behavioural, and risk assessments; develop, implement, and evaluate care plans; and provide crisis intervention, brief supportive counselling, psychoeducation, and case management. You will coordinate care with clients, families, community agencies, hospitals, and other service providers to connect clients to the resources they need.
You will monitor client responses to pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, administer medications safely, and maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation. You will also participate in triage and disposition planning.
You will contribute to program development, quality improvement, research, and evaluation; provide education and support to students; facilitate therapeutic groups; and help foster a workplace that embraces diversity, collaboration, and high-quality care.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certification. You must also be eligible for an adjunct faculty appointment with a Faculty of Nursing affiliated with CAMH.
Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of two years of experience in mental health, particularly in crisis, acute care, outpatient, or intake settings. Certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (CPMHN(C)) is considered an asset.
You will have strong assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build therapeutic relationships and work effectively within an inter-professional team. Sound knowledge of mental health nursing, crisis intervention, recovery-oriented care, case management, and community resources is required. Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, and brief therapy models, is an asset.
Effective organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Computer literacy, including electronic health record documentation, is required. The ability to work with clients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
If you are interested in this position, please ensure that you apply before 5pm EST of the closing date. If your application is received past 5pm EST of the closing date, your application will not be accepted.
