Headquartered in Toronto, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is responsible for investing in new infrastructure projects. The CIB’s mission is to work with provincial, territorial, municipal, federal, Indigenous and private sector investor partners to transform the way infrastructure is planned, financed and delivered in Canada.
The Manager, Portfolio Construction and Risk will lead the quantitative modelling of our portfolio - developing and maintaining models that forecast portfolio exposure and consider risk sensitivities and deployment scenarios to guide the future shape of the CIB’s investment portfolio.
Reporting to the VP, Portfolio Construction, this position requires significant financial analysis and modelling expertise with a particular focus on experience with portfolio-level analysis, paired with strong ability to communicate data-driven stories and analyses.
Your responsibilities include:
- Own, develop, maintain and refine our methodologies and modelling for assessing portfolio level risk across a full range of scenarios - including methodologies for assessing unexpected loss
- Own, develop, maintain and refine the CIB’s model of capital deployment and forecast exposure to manage long-run liquidity and sustainability of the investment portfolio
- Develop forecasts for capital deployment and other key variables to inform the CIB’s Corporate Plan
- Present to the Management Investment Committee and other senior management meetings, including of succinct reports with respect to the financial impact and risks embedded within our portfolio
- Identify and assess the implications of macroeconomic, climate, technological or societal changes on the potential performance of the CIB’s investment portfolio
- Refine the CIB’s approach to defining and setting its risk appetite
- Perform measurement, analysis and reporting with respect to the financial performance of investments on a portfolio-level basis, including as compared to the CIB’s risk parameters and appetite
- Maintain good knowledge of industry dynamics, trends and in particular, in relation to the CIB’s infrastructure mandate and its priority sectors
- Work closely with the Investment, Risk, Finance, Asset Management, Legal and Strategy teams with respect to the investment portfolio
- Provide managerial leadership to direct report(s) by setting clear objectives, supporting delivery against portfolio construction and risk priorities and fostering professional growth through ongoing mentorship, coaching and performance feedback
- Other portfolio and risk-related duties as required
Your ideal profile:
- Degree in finance, accounting, economics or equivalent experience. CFA, FRM, MBA, highly desirable
- 5–7 years of financial analysis and risk management experience, ideally in an infrastructure investment context
- Experience with the infrastructure asset class, PPPs, project finance (revenue risk and availability-based models) and corporate banking - preferably in any of the CIB’s priority sectors
- Experience in portfolio risk assessment methodologies, incl. Monte Carlo modelling and scenario analyses
- Strong analytical skills and ability to summarize complex structures and related risks in a clear and concise manner, experience building, maintaining and enhancing financial or statistical models, with demonstrated proficiency in Python
- Strong financial modelling skills and experience in using Microsoft Excel, Python, Word, PowerPoint and similar industry software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with policy-related mandates, a strong asset
- Bilingual English/French, an asset
