Original job description
We are looking for an Assistant Manager, Risk & Resilience to join the Insurance Solutions Business Risk & Controls team.
This is an exciting opportunity to partner directly with leaders across Insurance Solutions and play a key role in strengthening risk management, governance, and business resilience practices. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to influence decision-making, lead meaningful risk discussions, and help shape how the business identifies, assesses, and responds to risk in an evolving operational and regulatory environment.
If you enjoy building strong relationships, solving complex problems, working across diverse teams, and driving continuous improvement, this role offers broad exposure, high visibility, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across a wide range of business initiatives and risk programs.
What You Will Do
- Partner with leaders across Insurance Solutions to proactively identify, assess, monitor, and manage operational, regulatory, strategic, technology, and emerging risks while enabling informed business decisions.
- Conduct risk assessments in accordance with enterprise risk management standards and methodologies, including the development of risk statements, assessment of inherent and residual risks, evaluation of control effectiveness, and identification of practical mitigation strategies.
- Lead risk assessment workshops and stakeholder discussions that promote collaboration, support risk-informed decision-making, and strengthen overall risk awareness across the business.
- Collaborate with business partners to identify control gaps, perform root cause analysis, and develop corrective actions and mitigation plans to address risk exposures.
- Document, maintain, and support the testing of internal controls while contributing to the ongoing enhancement of the business control environment.
- Support the execution and delivery of enterprise and business risk programs, including Risk and Control Assessments (RCA/RCSA), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), Business Continuity Management (BCM), Risk Events, Scenario Analysis, Model Risk Management (MRM), End User Computing (EUC), and Issue Management.
- Monitor risk, audit, compliance, and regulatory findings and support timely remediation activities and issue resolution.
- Develop meaningful risk reporting, insights, and metrics for leadership teams, governance committees, and key stakeholders.
- Act as a trusted risk advisor by providing guidance, expertise, and constructive challenge to support sound decision-making and successful business outcomes.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of risk management processes, tools, practices, and capabilities across the business.
- Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: London, Toronto, or Winnipeg.
- 5+ years of experience in operational risk management, internal controls, internal audit, compliance, risk advisory, governance, business continuity, or a related discipline within financial services.
- Experience facilitating risk assessments and developing risk statements, risk ratings, control assessments, and mitigation plans.
- Knowledge of operational risk management principles, governance frameworks, and internal control practices.
- Experience evaluating control design and effectiveness and assessing inherent and residual risk exposures.
- Experience supporting one or more risk management programs such as operational risk, internal controls, business continuity, issue management, governance, model risk, risk reporting, or scenario analysis.
- Strong communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into practical business solutions.
- Proven ability to build relationships, influence outcomes, proactively identify issues, and deliver results with minimal supervision.
- Self-motivated, intellectually curious, collaborative, and committed to continuous learning and improvement.
- Professional designation such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Professional Accountant (CPA), or equivalent is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Accounting, or a related field.
- Partner with leaders across the business and contribute to strategic decision-making.
- Gain exposure to a broad range of risk, governance, resilience, and control initiatives.
- Work in a highly collaborative environment that values innovation, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
- Build expertise across operational risk, business continuity, governance, controls, and emerging risk programs.
- Make a meaningful impact by helping teams navigate change, strengthen resilience, and achieve business objectives.
