Original job description

Travelling HSSE Coordinator – Industrial & Marine Operations (NCSO)

Canada Pump & Power (CPP)

Position Type: Full-Time

Travel Requirements: Extensive travel to project sites across Canada

About Canada Pump & Power

Canada Pump & Power (CPP) is a Canadian leader in industrial pumping, dredging, barging, and commercial diving services. We provide specialized equipment, technical expertise, and innovative solutions to complex industrial and marine projects across Canada.

Our operations take us into diverse and challenging environments, including industrial facilities, waterways, remote project locations, and active marine construction sites.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Travelling HSSE Coordinator with a valid National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation to provide dedicated, site-specific safety support to our operations across Canada.

About the Role

This is a field-focused safety position requiring extensive travel to CPP project sites throughout Canada.

The successful candidate will work directly with project managers, supervisors, operators, commercial diving crews, and other field personnel to ensure safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and effective implementation of CPP's Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) programs.

We are looking for someone who understands the realities of working in industrial and marine environments and can confidently identify hazards, provide practical solutions, and support crews in maintaining safe and productive operations.

This is not a desk-based safety position. The successful candidate must be comfortable working outdoors, around heavy equipment, on or near water, and at remote or industrial project locations.

Key Responsibilities

Field Safety Support & Compliance

Travel to active CPP project sites across Canada to provide hands-on HSSE support.
Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments.
Support the development, review, and implementation of site-specific safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), and Emergency Response Plans (ERPs).
Monitor compliance with applicable provincial and federal occupational health and safety legislation, client requirements, and CPP policies.
Identify unsafe conditions, assess operational risks, and work with supervisors to implement practical corrective actions.
Support safe work practices involving heavy equipment, industrial pumps, dredges, barges, marine vessels, and commercial diving operations.
Verify that required training, certifications, inspections, and safety documentation are current and available on site.

Marine & Industrial Operations

Provide safety oversight and support for industrial pumping, dredging, barging, and marine construction activities.
Identify and assess hazards associated with working on or near water, including vessel access, fall-overboard risks, personnel transfers, and emergency rescue preparedness.
Support hazard assessments involving floating equipment, dredge pipelines, pumps, lifting operations, rigging, and heavy equipment.
Work alongside commercial diving supervisors and crews to support site-specific safety requirements and coordination of diving activities.
Assist in developing appropriate controls for simultaneous operations involving marine vessels, divers, heavy equipment, and industrial machinery.
Support environmental protection measures, spill prevention, and site-specific environmental compliance requirements.

Incident Prevention & Investigation

Participate in incident, near-miss, and hazard reporting and investigations.
Assist with identifying root causes and developing corrective and preventative actions.
Track corrective actions and verify completion.
Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and site-specific orientations.
Promote proactive hazard identification and employee participation in CPP's safety programs.

Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate site inspection records, safety reports, training documentation, and corrective action tracking.
Prepare regular field safety reports and communicate findings to CPP management.
Support internal and external safety audits, client inspections, and regulatory visits.
Assist with ongoing improvements to CPP's HSSE Management System and COR compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications

Valid National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation – Mandatory.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a field-based safety role within industrial construction, heavy civil construction, marine construction, or related industries.
Demonstrated experience supporting active construction or industrial project sites.
Strong working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
Experience conducting inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
Experience developing and reviewing site-specific safety documentation, including FLRAs, JHAs, and ERPs.
Valid Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driver's abstract.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Canada, including to remote project locations.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently, make sound safety decisions, and confidently engage with field crews and project leadership.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic safety reporting systems.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

Candidates with direct experience in the following environments will be strongly preferred:

Industrial and commercial marine construction.
Dredging operations and floating dredge equipment.
Barges, workboats, and marine support vessels.
Industrial pumping and dewatering systems.
Commercial diving operations and dive support activities.
Heavy equipment operations, lifting, and rigging.
Remote industrial project sites.
Working around water, marine emergency response, and water rescue planning.
Experience working under multiple provincial safety jurisdictions.

Additional safety certifications and marine-specific training will be considered assets.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is a practical, confident safety professional who is equally comfortable reviewing safety documentation and putting on their PPE to walk an active project site.

You should be someone who:

Takes initiative and works independently without constant direction.
Builds strong working relationships with field crews and supervisors.
Understands that effective safety management requires both regulatory knowledge and practical operational awareness.
Can identify problems, recommend realistic solutions, and follow through on corrective actions.
Is comfortable challenging unsafe work practices professionally and constructively.
Can adapt quickly to changing project conditions, locations, and operational demands.
Is willing to travel and be actively involved in CPP's field operations.

Working Conditions

Extensive travel throughout Canada based on operational and project requirements.
Work at industrial facilities, marine construction sites, and remote project locations.
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, uneven terrain, heavy equipment, noise, and working environments on or near water.
May require extended workdays and variable schedules depending on project demands.
Appropriate PPE and compliance with all site-specific safety requirements are mandatory.

Join Canada Pump & Power

At CPP, safety is an essential part of how we operate. Our projects are diverse, technically challenging, and often take place in unique industrial and marine environments.

We are looking for a safety professional who wants to be actively involved in operations, build relationships with our crews, and make a meaningful contribution to the safety and success of our projects across Canada.

Apply today to join the Canada Pump & Power team.
