Job Summary:
We are seeking a results-oriented CAD Technician to join our Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing drawings, layouts, sketches, maps, and graphic representations of engineering designs using Autodesk software under the direction of a designer. You will also be responsible for the creation and final output of telecommunications outside plant design deliverables, including field staking sheets, IFR and IFC packages, material order forms, as-builts, and database posting.
What you will be doing:
- Prepare IFR drawings, fiber strand allocation charts, splice diagrams, and fiber schematics; incorporate field notes and engineering/design information into drawings, diagrams, and maps.
- Create and edit underground civil and aerial permit drawing sets in accordance with the application standards of municipal, regional, provincial, federal, First Nations, railway, pipeline, and electrical distribution authorities.
- Prepare IFC drawings based on approved permits and complete Bill of Material reports and internal database entry.
- Compile construction redlines into AutoCAD as-builts, accurately capturing field changes, and complete Internal database posting.
- Assist the design team with additional deliverables required for successful project execution and contribute to overall department success as a team member.
What we are looking for:
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, or equivalent technical training/certification.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant drafting experience, preferably in telecommunications, utilities, industrial, transportation, or other infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and good working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD drafting.
- Ability to interpret engineering sketches, markups, technical drawings and design information.
- Proficient working knowledge of current computer operating systems, Excel, Word, and other Microsoft applications.
- Good understanding of CAD standards, drawing organization, layering, references and plotting.
- Familiarity with SHP files and GPS, and ability to source and integrate surveys, orthophotos, field mark-ups, GIS, and PDF data.
- Ability to follow instructions and perform assigned work with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a highly detail-oriented, organized, self-starting approach.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
Other Job Requirements:
- Occasional travel for site visits may be required based on project needs.
Working Conditions:
This position is primarily performed in an office or hybrid work environment and involves extended periods of computer-based work using AutoCAD and other design, mapping, and Microsoft applications. The role requires sustained concentration, attention to detail, and accuracy when preparing and revising telecommunications outside plant design drawings and related documentation.
The employee works with engineering drawings, field notes, construction redlines, GIS data, and other project information, while coordinating with designers and team members to support project delivery. Work is performed in a fast-paced project environment, requiring effective organization, the ability to manage assigned tasks, and consistent adherence to applicable design standards and quality requirements.
