THE ROLE

As a Sales Associate, you provide retail services to a unique client base - members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), and in assisting them, you are helping your community. You may provide a variety of services, including regular retail services, dry cleaning, lottery services, self-serve gas services, postal services, and assisting CAF members with credit plan applications. You will operate Point of Sales systems, the debit/credit machine and maintain a float.

The Sales Associate responds to enquiries from customers providing them with information on merchandising and ensuring the store shelves are stocked, faced, and properly signed. You may take and prepare food and beverage orders and prepare takeout food, while ensuring cleanliness of food service and eating areas.

Qualifications Needed

Education, Certifications and Licenses

An acceptable combination of education, training, and experience

Food Handling Certification, as required

Must possess a Responsible Service of Alcohol certification (BC), as required

Experience

In cash handling

In food and beverage preparation, as required

In food and beverage service, as required

Language Requirements

English Essential / Bilingual (English and French) an asset

Other Information

Perform moderate lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing (i.e. more than 10 lbs/4.5 kg but less than 50 lbs/23 kg)

This role is a unionized position offering between 14 to 32 hours per week.

Scheduled shifts will be based on CANEX Expressmart store hours - Monday to Wednesday from 06:30 to 18:00, Thursday to Friday 06:30 to 20:00, Saturday 09:00 to 20:00 and Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00.

This is an onsite position located in Colwood, BC.

Responsibilities

Provide retail and customer services to Canadian Armed Forces members, including operating point-of-sale equipment, handling payments, maintaining a cash float, and assisting with services such as dry cleaning, lottery, gas, postal services, and credit plan applications. Respond to customer enquiries, maintain and sign merchandise displays, and prepare and serve food and beverages while keeping service and eating areas clean.

Requirements

An acceptable combination of education, training, and experience is required, along with experience in cash handling and, as required, food and beverage preparation and service. Food Handling Certification and a British Columbia Responsible Service of Alcohol certification are required when applicable; basic reading and writing and functional oral English are specified, with French as an asset.
