Data Management/Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst.

What you will be doing!
- Assisting in developing, maintaining, and updating CNL’s Environmental Data Management System, and providing support to end-users.
- Developing, updating, and maintaining GIS layers as part of the GIS Viewer of the Environmental Data Management System.
- Providing regular training sessions and one-on-one support to the user base of CNL’s Environmental Data Management System (EDMS) to enable successful integration of the system into project, remediation, decommissioning, risk assessment, and environmental activities.
- Supporting the generation of various environmental and remediation reports by generating tables and figures from data extracted from EQuIS, and preparing and maintaining schematics and maps.
- Providing support to data owners in steady-state upload of data into EQuIS, coordination of analysis, cleansing, and upload of historical data into CNL’s Environmental Data Management System, and preparation of schematics and maps to support reporting as part of remediation and environmental protection activities.
- Analyzing, cleansing, and formatting historical data obtained from environmental investigations and uploading this data on behalf of various data owners.
- Providing support as needed to data owners who upload data on a steady-state basis, and oversee the migration of historical data for various CNL sites.
- Support ongoing development of drone imagery and remote sensing for the Whiteshell (WL) site.
- Conducting field activities, as required, for the purpose of collecting environmental samples from assorted media (soil, groundwater, surface water) to support various assessments, investigations, and monitoring programs.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What We Are Looking For
- Education
- Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in environmental science, geology, chemistry, geomatics, computer science, or equivalent formal education and a minimum of three (3) years of pertinent experience.
- Experience
- Experience manipulating various geomatics data sets (point files, shapefiles, AutoCAD files, geodatabases, LIDAR files).
- Experience with developing 3D conceptual models is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge and experience with conventional databases.
- Working knowledge of and experience in environmental concepts (e.g. drafting excavation locations, geologic cross-sections, groundwater flow direction and contours, soil sample locations and contaminant contours) is considered an asset.
- Experience conducting environmental fieldwork and sampling campaigns.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to perform work with minimal supervision.
- Good organizational and project management skills, with attention to detail.
- Above average communication skills, both written and verbal, along with tact and good judgement.
- Strong commitment to teamwork.
- Proficient in GIS, producing clear and accurate drawings in a reasonable time.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of EQuiS, Geocortex, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS is preferred.
- Familiarity with Leapfrog 3D Geologic Modelling software is considered an asset.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions
- We have a compressed work week: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week, starting at 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- This position is part of the Whiteshell Technical Employees Group (WTEG) Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the WTEG Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
- Predominantly office work, with frequent interactions with the EDMS Systems Analyst, EDMS Geomatics Specialist, Environmental Remediation Specialists, Decommissioning Specialists, Environmental Specialists, and field and laboratory staff.
