What you will be doing!
- Creating electrical engineering designs for nuclear and non-nuclear systems in accordance with Engineering Change Control requirements.
- Investigating, defining, and documenting technical design requirements to support safe and effective system performance.
- Developing and reviewing engineering design documentation, identifying replacement equipment, and recommending equipment or process improvements.
- Providing technical support during field execution activities and completing engineering closeout documentation, including drawings, maintenance routines, emergency procedures, and ServiceNow updates.
- Reviewing maintenance planning packages to ensure compliance with design requirements, applicable standards, and industry best practices.
- Performing power system studies to support worker safety and system reliability.
- Providing technical guidance and troubleshooting support to maintenance and operations personnel.
- Reviewing engineering work for code compliance, technical accuracy, and adherence to engineering best practices.
- Evaluating and reviewing engineering deliverables prepared by third-party contractors and consultants.
- Ensuring preventative maintenance requirements are identified and incorporated into maintenance programs.
- Investigating system failures and emerging equipment issues through field walkdowns, drawing reviews, and technical data analysis.
- Developing corrective action plans, documenting recommendations, and supporting implementation activities.
- Acting as the Engineering Representative for maintenance, modification, and capital projects.
- Coordinating technical inputs from multiple engineering disciplines to support project execution.
- Supporting the development of project scopes, technical specifications, work packages, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Collaborating with project managers, planners, operations personnel, maintenance teams, and contractors to achieve project objectives.
- Supporting commissioning, testing, turnover, and project closeout activities.
- Identifying and mitigating technical risks that may impact safety, quality, reliability, or project performance.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What We Are Looking For
- Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a university of recognized standing.
- Eligible to be licensed as a professional engineer in Canada.
- Experience
- Engineering experience in a regulated (e.g., nuclear) or industrial environment.
- Relevant experience in maintenance engineering, equipment reliability, asset management, system design, or maintenance program development is an asset.
- Experience in maintenance planning, commissioning, operations support, equipment lifecycle management, reliability engineering, and/or maintenance execution within a plant or nuclear operating environment would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze technical issues, troubleshoot equipment and system performance concerns, and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Experience working within quality assurance, regulatory, and safety-focused environments is considered an asset.
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and related maintenance planning and asset management software is an asset.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work in a team environment, maintain a clear focus on team goals, and establish good rapport with groups and individuals of many diverse professions is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with applicable Canadian occupational health and safety legislation, industry standards, and best practices related to maintenance, equipment reliability, work control, and safe work execution in industrial and nuclear facilities.
- Knowledge of safety programs and standards related to hazardous energy control, worker safety, equipment maintenance, and operational risk management.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements, engineering standards, quality assurance principles, and management systems applicable to nuclear and industrial environments.
- Knowledge of maintenance engineering principles, including asset management, preventive and predictive maintenance, reliability engineering, root cause analysis, and equipment lifecycle management.
- Working knowledge of plant operations, maintenance processes, engineering programs, and project execution activities.
- Familiarity with configuration management, work management, and maintenance program requirements in a regulated environment.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate technical issues, develop practical engineering solutions, and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and operational performance.
- Familiar with safety standards applicable to Canadian installations and Canadian nuclear facilities (Latest edition of Canadian Electrical Code C22.1, Control of Hazardous Energy (CSA Z460) and Workplace Electrical Safety (CSA Z462)
- Understand industry safety regulations (Canada Labour Code), standards and quality assurance (ISO 9001) for nuclear and industrial settings.
- Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System software would be an asset.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions
- We have a compressed work week: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week, starting at 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- This position is part of the WPEG and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in their Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
