About the Position

The Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA) represents the investors helping to build Canada's economy. Its members commit capital across the life of a business, from the venture funds that lead a startup's first institutional round to the private equity firms that buy established businesses and expand them. That capital finances the expansion and hiring that strengthen the Canadian economy. Since 1974 CVCA has spoken for that industry, and it now represents more than 340 firms and 2,600 industry leaders. If you want your work to contribute to Canada's economic growth, this role places you at the centre of the industry that finances it.

CVCA is hiring a Communications and Content Manager to carry its voice in public and to bring fresh approaches to its communications strategy. You work at the forefront of how organizations communicate, and you will bring that thinking to innovating, pitching and testing new formats and channels with its audiences. Audiences include the national and international business and financial press, institutional investors, the ecosystem, and Canadians. You will also support the government relations team with public-facing communications behind its advocacy.

The Communications and Content Manager reports to the Vice President, Corporate Affairs. If this work excites you, we want to hear from you.

Core Mandate

Own CVCA’s external communications and content program under the direction of the Vice President, Corporate Affairs: carry the association’s voice across channels, grow its reach to new audiences, and provide public-facing communications support across the organization’s functions.

Role and Responsibilities

Content Strategy and Institutional Voice

  • Develop and own CVCA’s content strategy across channels, and evolve how the association tells its story and broadens who it reaches.
  • Turn CVCA’s market data, policy positions, and member stories into content that explains, in plain terms, how venture and private equity work in Canada and why they affect people beyond the industry.
  • Identify and grow audiences beyond the current membership, including younger professionals, emerging managers, and the broader public, and choose the channels and formats that reach them.

Media Relations

  • Draft and distribute press releases, statements, and media materials
  • Maintain media lists and relationships with journalists and editors at national business, financial, policy, and technology outlets.
  • Handle media inquiries, coordinate interviews, and prepare reactive lines and Q&A under the direction of the Vice President, Corporate Affairs.

Editorial and Content

  • Produce and edit content for CVCA Central, member communications, and the association’s reports and commentary.
  • Maintain the editorial calendar and hold a consistent voice and standard across everything CVCA publishes.
  • Turn research and market data into articles, summaries, and commentary that members and journalists use.

Digital, Social, and Multimedia

  • Produce and direct platform-native content, including short-form video, that carries CVCA’s organizational and industry narrative across social channels.
  • Grow CVCA’s presence and reach across social platforms and adapt content to how each platform and audience works.
  • Work with colleagues on the marketing team to keep website content current while reflecting CVCA’s positioning, including event and campaign pages.

Communications Support for Advocacy

Working with the Vice President, Government Relations and Vice President, Corporate Affairs:

  • Develop key messages, briefing notes, fact sheets, and talking points that support CVCA’s advocacy agenda.
  • Turn CVCA’s policy positions into public-facing material and member communications in support of the agenda.
  • Prepare external communications material tied to the federal budget cycle, regulatory consultations, and CVCA’s policy priorities.

Executive and Leadership Communications

  • Working with the Vice President, Corporate Affairs, prepare speaking notes, remarks, and briefing material for the CEO and senior leadership across events, member meetings, and public appearances.
  • Write executive social copy, including LinkedIn, that carries the organizational and industry narrative.
  • Prepare board and committee communications material as required.

Qualifications

  • Education in communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism; Equivalent professional training or experience is equally welcome.
  • Strong writing across formats, from news-style and long-form to short social copy, with the judgment to write for members, investors, government, and media.
  • A sense for what reaches an audience across formats, from written pieces to short-form video, and the instinct to adapt a message to each.
  • Sound editorial judgment and the ability to hold a consistent voice and standard across everything CVCA publishes.
  • Comfort with media work: pitching, responding to inquiries, and preparing others to speak.
  • Genuine interest in Canadian politics, public policy, and the private capital industry CVCA represents.
  • Discretion with embargoed and sensitive material.
  • Comfort with website content management, social platforms, short-form video, and standard content and communications tools.

Experience

  • A record of producing communications on deadline for real audiences, built somewhere such as a newsroom, an agency, an association, a government or political office, a media role, or an in-house communications or public-affairs team.
  • Content strategy and audience development: planning content across channels and growing reach with an audience over time, including through short-form video, platform-native formats, and non-traditional mediums.
  • Media relations work: writing press releases and media materials, building relationships with journalists, and handling inquiries.
  • Editorial and content production: writing and editing articles, member or stakeholder communications, and publications, with an eye for voice and standard.
  • Turning complex material such as policy, data, or research into clear content for non-specialist audiences.
  • Preparing written material for senior leaders, such as speaking notes, key messages, remarks, or briefing notes.
  • Familiarity with the federal policy calendar, existing media relationships, or association and membership communications would each be an asset.
